As an atheist, you will VERY seldom hear me making a prayer request, but today my sister, a good Christian like many of you, had to euthanize her cat. So how about an appropriate little prayer for Rudy the feline to send her off to kitty heaven? In return, I promise to try to be more tolerant of your views on religion, okay?

Prayer for Animal Burial

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of [name of animal] and ask for courage to bear it. We bring you our thanks for [name of animal] who lived among us and gave us freely of his/her love. We commit our friend and companion [name of animal] into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

Please share this poem with your sister... the first time I recieved a copy of this when I lost one of my best friends, it warmed my heart, let me cry until it was all out and move on knowing I would see my friend again. I am not a religious person... but I believe there is life after death.

Rainbow Bridge Poem

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.

There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again.

They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group.

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Will do and here is a nice poem for your sister to comfort her.

RainbowsBridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm not Christian, but I believe in God and will gladly pray for your sister and her cat. I had to have one of my cats euthanized a couple of months ago, and I know how hard it is.

This makes no sense.

If God doesn't exist, then prayers are worthless.

God cannot both exist and not exist.

Besides most Christian theists don't believe that animals go to heaven anyway.

Christianity v. atheism is not an I'll do this for you if you do this for me type of thing. If you want to pray for your sisters cat then you should be a Christian and do it yourself. I've never heard of someone praying for a cat. I will however pray for you.
