1st the operating system crashed ( twice), I redownloaded it, was fine for a while but the resolution was way to large-big icons etc. It would not let you adjust it. When we went to where you supposed to be able to the adjustment needle wouldn't move. I didn't ever have it online.
My teenage son was fiddling with it, says it gave him an option to turn off the video card (dumb option) so he did. Now we have no idea how to turn it back on without being able to see anything on the screen.
It's a pentium 3 with windows xp on it.I don't have the money to take it to a shop, and I don't want to toss or give away a good computor just because I don't know what to do with it. I have a dragon naturally speaking system (voice activated system so I can operate it- type and things by voice) on it that I could really use, my typing is really slow do to multipe sclerosis affecting my hands.
Any suggestions?

Well the question is where did he turn off the video card? If he was in the BIOS and turned things off there, then you could fix this.

Power down and unplug the computer. Open the side case and remove the battery - looks like a large watch battery. Wait about 5 minutes, then re-install the battery. This should reset your BIOS back to the factory default.

If you can see the video now, and the icons are still large, be sure to reinstall the video driver. After you install the driver and reboot, you should be able to adjust that slider (adjustment needle).

Hope this helps

See if you can beg or borrow a plug in video card from a friend (or buy a cheap $20-30 one). Put it into your computer, attach the monitor to it, and boot. You do not need to let it load WIndows or anything. Just press the key that takes you into the computer's setup. Turn the other card back on. Shut down and remove the borrowed card.

As for the resolution issue, you are probably missing the software driver needed to run the card. Go to the website of the manufacturer of the PC and look under their Support and/or Drivers & Downloads section. Find your model and they should have the driver available as a free download. Once installed, you will be able to adjust your video settings.

Good luck....
