I just stop. You're muscles won't cool down in the minute or less it usually takes for the light to change. I'll just keep my pace up instead of taking rest breaks during the rest of the run to make up for the lost time.

I do the same as you jog lightly on the spot, I guess I feel a bit stupid but don't let it bother me. I don't live in a big city so I don't come across that many of them but I do quite often, I just run there on the spot. Who cares what other people think, just get your middle finger ready, j/k! You do just have to keep your muscles warm until you can run again. It is best to try and avoid them though if you can get to parkland or something but I know thats not always possible; not much you can do I'm afraid.

Even though you feel ridiculous, if you stop you could have problems later on. If I were you, I'd jog in place and maybe do some quick stretches. You could take your pulse. Some people do that before, during, and after they run. Change playlists on your Ipod. Really, its whatever floats your boat. :)

Shift your weight between your two legs.... Hop with your weight on one for 10 beats, then hop on the other for 10 beats... this will keep you moving and your heartrate up but you don't have to look silly jogging in place.
When I say "Hop" I don't mean hopping up and down like crazy, but more of just a bounce, so it's not very noticeable what you're doing, but you're still moving.

I'm sorry, but your best bet is to find a park or track.
check
http://www.mapmyrun.com/ for local running paths others have taken. The satelite photos are cool while you are mapping your route.

Hail a taxi.
When it stops for you the traffic behind will stop, too.
Get in the taxi from the curb.
Slide across the seat.
Get out through the other door.
Continue on your way.
