Only 3 days left to my big high school exam and I'm so worried..It comes me like; if I can't win it, my life will end...I just want to go to my dream high school and a good future..

Well Irmak, you still have other hurdles to take in your life, this is only one of them. If you do have a dream future than this won´t and shouldn´t stop you from working on it. It´s not the name of the school that prepares a good future for you. A lot of it is still in your hands. Think of all the others that experienced a different life later on.
Try to see this as a start and only one of the many exams ahead of you, otherwise this could turn into a phobia for the exams after this one.
I know the school system in Turkey sucks but you can´t do anything about it at the moment. The stress of exams is a growing problem in other developed nations too, since they have all realized that they need high-tech to be in front. So nowadays it´s somehow normal to spend your teen ages and twenties with the stress of exams. Now try to calm down. I wish you lots of luck and success.

Now I realize how young you really are:)))
Don't get me wrong, you are a lot mature and wise for your age in many ways!
The answer to your question is IEL. It is a dream high school. I have visited it last week for the traditional pilav & aşure day. Brought back some reminiscences...
I wish you lots of success in your endevours. Those years will take hard work but at the end it will be worth it. A man can lose his everything but can start anew if he has the knowledge to do so. I highly recommend my high school.

And of course you're a smart girl of smart parents (Both boun grads right?) so there is no chance you will fail. Just be confident and you'll beat the losers that designed the examination system.

Sabancı Anatolian Textile High School

Good luck to you! I'll be thinking of you on Sunday.

I went to 19 Mayıs Lisesi for five years but graduated from Menomonee Falls High School, Wisconsin-USA. I was an exchange student.
I always wanted to be a diplomat/politician. Someone who could take decisions to change things in my country. I even passed the entrance exam of METU (different exam at that time). I came 4th among foreigners. But a lot of things happened and I couldn't get in :(
I studied at Ankara Uni Law school for one year, then I went to DTCF and studied Eng. Lang. and Literature.
Am I happy being a teacher? Yes. Do I still want to be a diplomat/politician? Yes. But too late now.
Don't let these things worry you much now. A lot of kids go to 'not so good' high schools but they get into good universities.

Bursa Anadolu Lisesi..

Irmak'cığım,

Of course your life won't end.

Going to a good school is important but with your IQ, I don't think you will have any problems succeeding in life. As an older sister, I'm proud of your maturity- sometimes too mature though :)- your judgment skills and your emotional balance. Don't get stressed. Close your books now and relax until the exam. Think positive thoughts , whatever you give to the Universe will come back to you as it is. I'm quite sure you will achieve what you want.

Good luck

Crazy Ä°pek :))))

Ozel Buyuk Kolej, Ankara

all my students from Turkey are taking the exam and they are really excited and anxious as well, I know it is stupid to say "relax" but, the more you get excited, the more you get closer to fail, so try to answer the questions that you know better, first, then, if you have time, you can answer the rest, and do not spend more than 1 minute on a question, if you can't answer, then skip and try to answer the next one... i know it is not that easy, but I wish you good luck and I hope you'll be successful....

by the way, son soruna yurekten katiliyor ve aynisini ben de soruyorum...

Good luck, Irmak! While I'm not a Turk and never had to go through this test, I used to be a teacher at a kolej in Istanbul and know how nerve-wracking it can be.

Selin, keep in mind that there are other people than Turks on this site, many of whom can speak Turkish, comme moi. I find it really offensive that you infer that all Americans are not as intelligent as Turks when entering university. Sure, if you went to some dump school like Southern Mississippi State, then sure, most of the girls go there to get their "Mrs" degrees and couldn't care less about academics. But if you went somewhere the least bit selective, it would be a different story. Yes, I will concede that the math education in Turkey is far superior than in the US, but the Turkish educational system desperately lacks health education and lessons that instill critical thinking skills. Rather, it's all rote memorization. Sure, it's fine to memorize a line of poetry, but tell me what it means. At a certain prestigious high school in Istanbul (where my boyfriend went), the class was reading Catcher in the Rye. Instead of trying to inspire the students to analyze the deeper meaning behind the story, the teacher just put up bullet points of the plot, and said, "remember this for the test."

This little anecdote brings me to the point of my post. The Turkish education system needs to move away from an educational program that only encourages students to cram for tests to get to the next level--and favors middle to upper-class students who can afford to go to dershanes, as the test material is hardly taught at school. Rather, essay writing and trying to equip students to answer "the tougher questions" of a changing world--or at least be able to deduct that a newspaper is just spouting a bunch of ideological claptrap rather than hard news--will bring the country forward.

Anlarm, I noticed that you went to school in Menomonie! I'm from Minnesota, just over the border. :-)

Good luck, Irmak. At the ripe old age of 14, your posts are among the most insightful and inquisitive on this board. You're going to go far.

Dear Irmak,

Bayrampasa Vocational Lisesi (Endustri Meslek Lisesi) Electricity Departmant

But, do you know what is the my dream in your age ?
Guess it something ...

To be Jet Pilot (F16 Pilot)... :-)

No kidding, it is real.
So that, I applied Deniz Lisesi and Kuleli Askeri Lisesi...
I successed sport and interview exam. And then when I came the writing exam, I failed...

I am so sad, I sad always how can I fail ?
It is impossible, I would like to be Pilot, What will I do ?
Everynight, In my dream, I saw himself, to be pilot, and flying the air, beatifull blue dress, there was eagle on my hat ...
Funny is not it ? But it is real...

My advice in your exam, to be relax, do not be panic, first read the question, if you do not understand the question passed and read another question, trust yourself ...

You know, time is important like that exam, lots of student will in the exam, and just only a few student, maybe won good places...

Why am I writing so long ?
Because Life is still continue and never ending ...

We and your family are always love you, forever ...

Good Luck and Take care of yourself,
