Oh great just what we need more of, Mutually assured destruction. I cannot blame Putin, even though I do not like him, because
1) Bush withdrew from the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty( aka 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty ) in December 2001, a treaty that had been in place for 30 years and had been since the end of the Cold War in 1989 been responsible for the mutual dismantling of nukes for both Russia and the USA.
2) Started with Reagan's dream of SDI.
3 Bush has demonstrated a penchant for starting pre-emptive wars based on flimsy intelligence.
4) Putin has no way of knowing whether or not the missiles themselves cannot be changed from "defensive" to "offensive" weapons. He cannot take Bushs' word for it, since his word is considered mud worldwide.

Hey buddy - Americans already have bases and military organizations in Europe since WWII. A missile "defense" system does not pose a threat as far as a - lets say - an ICBM aimed at Moscow. The key word is "defense". I don't know what that means to you but I think it means an ability to fend off missile attacks from anyone, to include Russia. Who gives a crap. So the US sells a missile "defense" system to the European Union. Ask Russian and China who they sell "offensive" weapons too. Iran? Syria? Your question does not ask anything. You simply want to state your "opinion" under the guise of a question. Honestly, if Russia or China had the technology to build a credible missile "defense" system - they would. This technology is very hard to come by and hard to initiate. Russia is jealous. Maybe they should focus on the immense corruption, irresponsibility, accountability for their current military. Putin is putting up a smoke screen to steer the worlds attention on the huge problems that Russians face internally. Just like Chavez in Venezuela - he sells the world that he will give free heating oil to the needy yet his country still is in mass squallor. Don't believe me - go visit Caracas.

Wrong question. A better question would be:
"Would anybody in the US really care if the Russians placed ABM systems in Cuba and Venezuela?"

Just as an ABM system in Poland is not a threat to the Russians - ABM systems in those two countries cannot threaten the US.

In fact you need to pay better attention to foreign affairs if you want to understand the true reasons for Putin's issues with the ABM system. He is not as concerned about the system itself as he is about Poland leaving his 'sphere of influence.'

No, they will choke with saline.
They almost choked when Chavez bought a couple of Kalashnikovs.
