All in all this is a sad situation...Yes, your little girl is way overweight. I don't know what her lifestyle is but I'm guessing that it's a high-fat, high carb diet and little if no exercise.

At her age this can be turned around but it's going to require a serious effort from the whole family. Put away the video games, start eating better and getting more exercise...Have a dog? Walk it! Most dogs love going for walks and it's good for both!

Now the common sense part...You didn't mention the condition of your daughters overall health. Make sure you you see a doctor before you set off on a weight loss program involving this much weight. There could very well be other issues involved.

Good luck to both of you!

Mike

yes I believe she is overweight. My daughter is 4'11", 12 yrs old and weight 134. She was diagnosed with "almost" pre diabetes. (juvenile diabetes) Meaning, her body was showing signs of insulin surges. She had this dark ring around her neck. She got really scared and somehow lost 20 lbs! I was astonished.

When she was at her dads house everyother week she was eating fast food everyday after school, drinking sodas and nor very active. (was not aware of the fast food!!!) She stopped all that and eats less sugary foods and eats more fruits. The ring has lightened alot. Your step daughter end up with serious health problems. I would seek medical advise. good luck.

* I agree rude comments are just plain and simply inmatre, this is a childs health. If you cannot be a civilized person and respect that people are on here for advise then maybe you should get another hobbie... in otherwords, dont be an asshole.*

For the first 5 ft, you should weigh 100 lbs. Then for every additional inch, you add 5lbs. So at 5ft you should be 100lbs. At 5 ft 1 inch, you should be 105. And so on. Turn her weight around with oatmeal and plans for very active sports outside. Help her with this. If you play tennis, you will get a major workout. Or buy dance dance revolution for playstation 2. (Buy the extreme versions. They have fun music). Becoming healthy does not have to be hard. You can help her do it fast and healthily. If she is only 11, you need to start guiding her now, before she is driven to eating disorders or other unhealthy routes as well as depression and consistently more weight gain. Act now!

I think you know the answer to that one. I'm 5'3" and weigh 160 pounds and I'm fat. Of course, I'm 40 years old and I've had 2 children. I still need to lose 30 pounds to be at a healthier weight, but I have somewhat of an excuse. An 11 year old child should not be 175 pounds unless they are 6 feet tall. I would take your daughter to a doctor and a nutrionist. Take her to the doctor to rule out an illness like thyroid problems. Then take her to a nutrionist to learn about a healthy diet. Then sign her up for a gym with a trainer or karate classes or something of that nature to teach her about exercise.

Weight problems are a result of many things and not all are necessarily the fault of the person struggling. In my case it's portion control. I eat too much at a sitting and I don't burn off the calories I consume. Though I'm active I don't do much that gets my heart rate up. I have to go to the gym several times a week to keep my weight in check. I started eating larger and larger portions as a child because I was under weight. Over the years it caught up with me and for the past ten years I've struggled to control my portions.

Whatever the reason she is over weight and she needs to figure out why and correct it now before she gets much older. Habits are hard to break the older you get. Health issues only multiply as you get older. They are harder to correct the older you get. It's time to take action.

She is 11! She is probobly that heavy because she will be getting taller soon. I was that heavy at her age, and I ended up slimming down to what is now 112 pounds on a 5'3 frame. I did lay off the junk food and go on a walk every day, however. Just make sure she has some outdoor fun every day and she'll be fine. Her body just needs the extra weight right now so it can grow soon. She is almost a teen. You should consult a doctor, too however. Your family doctor knows your daughter better than me.

Have a nice day!:)

Yes I'm afraid she is.
Her BMI (Body mass index) is 34.2 and the BMI category is as follows:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

You also have to remember she is only 11 years old. She needs to increase her activity and watch what she is eating. She is at a very sensitive age, where children can be especailly cruel to a young girl who is obese.

Make some time to be with your child enjoying outdoors, and play time. Have her play outside more to increase her activities. She will thank you in the long run.

I also suggest that you speak to your family doctor. He can recommend a good nutritionist and help you make the appropriate steps toward getting your child healthy.
Your child is also at increase risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. it's been more common for obese children to get this lifelong disese. (type 2 diabetes used to be basically only for adults but with the increase amount of obese children the has been a surge or children contracting it)

Please Take Care

Of course but don't worry. I will give a solution: my diet. IA few months a go I wanted to dropped off some fat (not to much). I began to eat lean protein (like chicken, turkey, fish, etc.); fruits and veggies. I stop to eat rice, bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pastas and candies. I also take out cokes, any beverages, execpt water. I lose the weight that I want combibne this diet with moderate exercise. I'm 15 years old and I look great and fit. I hope that you daughter can obtain similar results. Try to read about Dr. Perricone
Good Luck

I am 5 feet tall and at 112 lbs. I am at a healthy weight (However, I'm 18). I think anywhere from 100-130 lbs is considered healthy for a 5 foot tall teenager, so if your daughter weighs more than a healthy teenage weight already I'd try to convert her to a healthier lifestyle (eating better, being active) so that she can lose weight and be able to maintain a healthy weight as a teenager and adult.

-Honestly, yes. She should not be 175 pounds at age 11 if she is only 5 feet tall. get her on a healthy diet. All kids (not just ones trying to lose weight) should be eating healthy foods and once in a while have sweets or candy, -

The ideal weight for a female thats 5 feet tall is 100 pounds. 175 pounds is the ideal weight of a Male thats 5'10". So yeah she is overweight and if something isnt done she will face major health risks very early in life.
