Just to let people know I have gotten 3 opinions and all the same... She has witnessed and problaly been a part of physical abuse. She witnessed her dad beat and tourture her stepmom and now he is not allowed to see her anymore. Once I found out what was going on I got her help.. She was 2 saying she was going to cut herself and watch herself bleed, would get extremly violent and would have rages for sometimes 4 hours straight. So this is not something I can just deal with...

She's 3????
How did they diagnose her with PTSD???

Hopefully she will grow out of it, but I would definately seek out a second opinion here.

She's too young to be on prozac!

Wow, she must have been through some major stuff at a young age to be diagnosed with those disorders. I'd get second opinions. It's not very safe for children to be on those drugs. BUT sometimes if it's severe enough they need to be on something. Work toward slowly weaning her off of them after 6 months! Check with your doctor of course!!! Always make sure she's on the lowest dose possible! You're a great parent to help her in the right way. Do your own research, don't just trust what the dr. or a few people say!

I have never heard of a three year old on Prozac the youngest I have ever seen and in all my nursing the youngest is 5 years old. It is possible for a 3 year old to have PTSD they diagnose it by watching there play they usually act out the Traumatic Event in play, here is a great resource for you and hang in there it has got to be tough but I would question your DR about the Prozac or seek a second opinion.

I would hope that you got a second opinion on this. Putting such a young child on mood altering meds is not the "norm". Post traumatic stress disorder can be treated through counseling.

Perhaps EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) treatment may help her. I have PTSD and have been recieving EMDR for 10 months now. What it does is help reduce the distress felt with certain memories. Ask your GP (or psychiatrist) if it is done in your area. My heart goes out to you and your littleone.

i do not think that someone so young can be diagnosed with PTSD, do not allow a 3-year old to take Fluoxitine. drugs are not the answer(alone) to us oldies let alone someone so young, Get other advice, is there money involved? This is disturbing.
