I am Atheist but I know what Christianity is about (I was raised Catholic). I know what it means to be "Christ-like" so why do I see so many people misrepresenting their faith on Yahoo Answers R&S section?

Christians are taught to be understanding, compassionate, tolerant, forgiving, caring, etc. so why is it that I don't see much of that at all here?

Take a moment to think and reflect on how you represent your religion and answer this question: When you visit this forum, are you a positive representative of your faith, or are you setting a bad example for all who follow your beliefs?

Dearest Christy, I am a bible believing Christian. I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, and I read the bible and pray regularly. You are absolutely right - we as Christians are indeed taught to be loving, understanding, compassionate, tolerant, forgiving, etc. That is all very true. The over-arching theme of anyone's response on Yahoo Answers as a dedicated Chriatian should be LOVE. However, our faith also teaches us that there is a very clear, and distinct line between right, and wrong, good and evil, acting like the devil, and acting like God - or more bluntly - sin and righteousness. I'm not entirely sure what you might be referring to when you say that you see alot of Christians misrepresent thier faith on this site. I will grant you that there are alot of very mixed up Chrisitans out there who pick and choose what they will believe and follow - so that they, themselves don't have to change how they think, beleive and act. Most of those are very young, uneducated and what we call "carnal" or "flesh-ruled" Christians (flesh-ruled means that you do and say whatever you feel like doing, instead of doing what the bible tells us to do, or what we know in our own hearts to be the right thing) This is something to remember: Christians are followers of Jesus, and for the most part, if we are serious, we try and do the right thing. However, we are also human, and we make mistakes, and are imperfect. That doesn't negate our beliefs, or what Jesus taught, or the mere fact that there is a God.
Sweetheart, I know that you say that you are an atheist, but honestly, I don't believe that. I think at the core of you, you KNOW that there is a God. I grew up Catholic too, and by the mere fact that you and I share a common past, I know that you don't beleive that there is no God. You are smarter than that. What I think, is that you've seen too many people be hypocritical, and be flesh-ruled. Right?
Let me reassure you - there IS a God, He loves you deeply. He created you, called you by name Christy, and has a good plan and awesome future and destiny for you. Don't give up on Him, just because people have failed you. People will always fail you, and disappoint you. God Himself never will. Let Him show you that all of these things that I say are true. Can I encourage you to do something? Find your bible from your Catholic Church, and open to the book of John. I know that you know where that is. Then, with an open heart, and mind, read that gospel, and let God love you through His words written on that page. Let it soak into your soul, and if you're very quiet, on the inside of you - you will know that God is near, and present. Accept His love and forgiveness, and you will NEVER be the same.
Blessings on you little one, as you search for Him. I know that you will find Him if you seek Him with all of your heart. I will pray that you do!

I know, I was just going to ask this. If you're a Christian, doesn't that mean you should be like Jesus, and do what he did? He accepted everyone from tax-collectors to prositutes and loved them all. He would not be as cruel and judgmental as some of these "Christians" are here on this site. Sad, really. Most Christians do NOT act like TRUE Christians.

Not that I believe in Christianity (I used to be one for 20 years, though) but I think if you're going to follow a religion, actually FOLLOW it . Don't be a hypocrite and expect people to listen to you.

Hopefully you realize that a lot of the really nasty responses from the "Christians" are being put in by people deliberately trying to make them look bad. It is often helpful to check those people's other q&a's and see if they are answer/asking as "atheist" the rest of time.

Your very smart and I totally agree with you. I too was raised Christian and never in my life have I seen such hatred than I do on here by supposed Christians. It's really sad. I am Atheist as well. Maybe that says something.

It is sad to say, that even Christianity has it's black sheep. The kind of people that most try to ignore.

It is important to remember that Jesus was a teacher first, and the savior second.

That's why I hope my answers teach a little something.

They often THINK they do. But I can count the number of people on here on one hand that I've seen that actually present Christianity in a good light.

I'd be interested in seeing someone collect answers and actually compare nasty vs. nice and Christians vs. non-Christians. I don't think I've seen very many truly nasty comments by professed Christians. I see most nastiness coming from the opponents of Christians, such as chriscrosschrist, above.

The majority of them set a bad example because they are liars, fakes, hypocrites, bullies, and bigots.

Christianity is NOT a religion. IT IS a relationship between man and God
