Yahoo says, ETYMOLOGY:
Latin intelligns , intelligent- present participle of intellegere, intelligere, to perceive : inter-, inter- + legere, to choose; see leg- in Indo-European roots

That's what this is really all about, right? Is it more intelligent to base our lives on that which is concrete and provable, or that which many find strength and comfort in (and COULD be true, there is no definitive evidence against it)?

Do whichever you feel is best for you.

The things of God cannot, and never will, be pigeonholed to fit into man's logic, reasoning, or definitions of intelligence.

For all things in the physical realm, base understanding on what is provable. When I cook lunch I am not going to sit down at the table and pray that God places a plate of fully cooked food in front of me. I have to prepare the food myself based on techniques that are proven to work.

For all matters spiritual, turn to faith. The physical and the provable won’t get you there.

We are physical and we are spiritual so by necessity they coexist.

I am a Christian and I believe that it is most important to base our lives on what is concrete and provable. It only makes sense.

Logically, if people really think about it, it is to their benefit to believe in God. I have a very personal relationship with my Creator...and if I am wrong...so what? I may be deluded or mistaken...but that relationship has done wonders for me and I am not willing to give it up. On the other hand, if I am right...and of course I do believe that I am right....how glorious it will be later. For a non-believer...He or she has only nothingness today and nothingness for tomorrow.

No, by your defninition, intelligence is based on what you perceive, not what is concrete. I perceive God daily. And I choose to tell as many people about it as I can get away with.

What is more intelligent, basing our life on God who has given us clear directions, communicates with us and even went on earth to save us... or base your life on your own fallible intelligence?

Its more intelligent to base you life on which is true.

oh and Lack of disproof does not equal proof. You have the burden of proof to bear claiming God is real.

Pascal said something that could be applied here.

“The origins of disputes between philosophers is, that one class of them have undertaken to raise man by displaying his greatness, and the other to debase him by showing his miseries.”
