normally you are given gas or an injection to knock you out so you won't be aware of what is going on. It's not a terrible surgery, as I have had it. You will need to eat soft foods for a couple of days like: poached eggs, yogurt , ice cream and smoothies.

I just had my wisdom teeth taken out. I’m really nervous about dentists. You can early choose to be gassed or intravenously put out. I did intravenously. Just don’t look at the needle, it doesn’t hurt.. (and trust me I HATE needles) And then you’ll be out and won’t remember a thing. For the pain afterwards, they will give you pretty good pills to help with the pain. Have somebody that will be there for you because you’re going to want to sleep A LOT. And yes you can eat, but muchy stuff that you can just kinda swallow. No chewing, and no sucking on straws or anything like that.. that can cause dry socket which is VERY painful. I ate a lot of pudding, applesauce, and mashed potatoed. Once they start healing, you can graduate to spaghetti and stuff like that. Good luck.

I had my tonsils out 17 years ago (before lasers so recovery time was a lot longer than today) and I had my wisdom teeth out 10 years ago before they had even grown in. They dug them out. Believe me, wisdom teeth surgery is nothing like tonsil surgery. I was like you and was WAY more afraid of the needle to put me out than I was of the teeth surgery. The needle doesn't last long though and before you know it you are waking up in recovery. I could eat that evening but only things like mashed potatoes. They give you pain pills so it's not too bad but you can use a heating pad on your face as well. The one thing to remember is to change the gauze regularly and not to swallow the blood. Swallowing the blood will make you throw up as your stomach cannot tolerate the blood in it. Good luck and don't be scared.

I had four taken out at once (one was infected and had to be chipped out with a hammer and chisel) but they gave me an IV and all I remember was floating and then waking up. That was the easy part. Make SURE you do not smoke or drink with a straw the day after. (I did both) You end up with what are called 'dry sockets' where your teeth used to be and that hurt worse than anything else. Make sure you get lots of Percocet and you will be fine!! I did not eat much the first day- the dentist gave me some kind of liquid food (I cannot remember what it is called) and I was fine.

I had my wisdom teeth out and it wasn't so bad. They put me under, and boy was I loopy afterwards. I couldn't really eat, but I had yougurt, milkshakes, and things like that. After a day or so, it starts to be not so sore. They did give me vicodin for the pain. It's not as bad as you think. I was thinking of the worse case scenarios before I sat in the chair, and afterwards, I was a little on the "happy" side if you know what I mean.

If you can't get over your fear, you can pay an additional fee for general anesthesia (Nitrous oxide or similar). The holes will be packed with gause and you will not want to eat anything solid for a while regardless. You'll be able to eat and drink within a day.
If you have had good experiences with this dentist in the past and trust him/her this might be a good time to face your fear. After the initial freezing sting of the local anesthesia ( it might make you tear up), the process is surreal (they really have to yank on those things but you can't feel them doing it) but painless.

They will give you gas first, then hit you with the needles. Then they will knock you out with drugs, take out the teeth, and prescribe you some pain killers. You can't change what you are limited to eating.

I had a large spliff before and a glass of whiskey afterwards and I had all 4 of mine ripped out at one sitting. But then I'm not a wuss about needles. Good luck with that.
