.........they idea that the Earth is only 6000 years old is just plain silly?

Do you really think that all the people on this Earth could come from one couple over a period of just 6,000 years?.........oh, not forgeting most of them died in a flood apparently.

Do you ever sit down and REALLY question the logic behind the idea?

Or would that be a sin?

Poohcat1..............possible does not mean probable. And I would dispute the possibility anyway. I don't believe you're factoring in many variables, like early death and desease.

I believe in the old earth.
But if you take 4 couples, having children, and them having children, and people at that time living for several hundred years, I believe it is possible to populate the earth in a short time.

I just tried to quickly find a population growth chart with out success.

But any way, right after the flood the earth still had a better environment to live in than today. The genealogy listed in the Bible shows that for several Generations people still lived several hundred years. Mostly likely also during that time sickness were still fewer at that time.

For factual evidence - there are in several places around the world human and dinosaur footprints in the same rock (speaking of "rock solid evidence"!!).

One thing I like to mention that the majority of them don't consider, is the distance between our planet and any given star, that we see twinkling at night.

Most of them will admit that they think scientists can accurately measure the speed of light, and that we know the distance between celestial objects.

But when you put these two things together, it demonstrates that many of the stars that "god set in the heavens" on the 4th day of creation, have been in extistence for hundreds of thousands of years. And that is the only way their light could have reached us by now.

Of course, if you believe it's all "magic" and god just made it look that way, this argument goes out the window. But at least it makes them quit trying to sound scientific, and forces them to show their true colors...

They have an equation, which assumes logarithmic increase with no deaths due to child birth, disease, or in child hood. They say people bred like rabbits basically, pumping out kid after kid after kid, with absolutely not consequences of no having a society set up to deal with these children, or their care. Basically, they claim that ignoring everything we know about humanity and the nature of children, that numerically it could be possible. Which, in essence, is technically correct, if it were numbers and not people. Google it, you can find a graph, it's pretty depressing actually.

Why would you debate this on yahoo answers, there aren't a lot of people on yahoo answers who accept the Archbishop Usher view of history.

Edit: You're dealing with someone who thinks the human footprint and the dinosaur footprint proves their case, its not worth it, you're argueing against a brainwashed moron.

Couldn't effort be put into some people more open minded?

I have questioned the logic, and sadly, I still don't know exactly where I stand on this issue. The good news, however, is I do not find it a foundational issue in any regard.

they believe what they are told and what they want to believe, and make "facts" of their own to support the idea. they follow and believe whatever silvertongue preacher/ YE creationist/genesis literalist is giving them the hype. too bad they can't wake up and realize that creationism and evolution can and do support one another when seen in the proper perspective. too bad they either can't or are too lazy to think for themselves after seeing ALL the evidence from ALL sides.
