Fishermen use different methods...
Why the minnow is so deadly is seen in the behaviour of these creatures. They have the habit of turning quickly in the water, producing a flash of silver/white underbelly.

Use a small hook (size no. 4, 6 or 8)
>Best: Put the hook through it's back just below it's dorsal fin to allow it to make all the swimming movements to attract other fish.
>Put the hook through it's tail.
>Put the hook through it's lower jaw and then through it's top jaw.

Put a sinker on the line about 2 feet from the hook and lower into the water....if there are fish in the area, won't be long before you get a bite. Once you feel the tug, set the hook right away and reel in your catch.

I use my fishfinder to locate what level the fish are suspended at. Then I use a bobber stop and a sliding bobber to put the minnow right above the level of the fish. I usually hook the minnow at the dorsal fin.

It depends on what your fishing for really. you may troll with it or you might but a bobber on and cast out or you just might let it sink to the bottom. point is there is alot of answers to your question and so many ways you can fish with a minnow. you might try for bass or catfish and other fish.

Good Fishing! <*))))><

The best way is to rig them on a set of gang hooks. Hook the top hook through their lips and let the trailing hook float free. This way you're presenting the minnow in a completly natural manner....http://www.jrwfishing.com/gang_hooks.asp

When I fish w/minnows,I like to use a bobber(depending on the size of your minnow, determine how big of a bobber to use!)

Use a jig. Put the hook in it's mouth and out it's gills, or just behind the gills (without actually breaking it's gills, or you'll notice it bleed out..) . Snug it up to the jighead, then put the hook right through it's side, but don't hit the spine.

I use this for walleye, perch, pike, bass, lake trout, and even brook trout. It allows you to experiment with colours and bounce off the bottom.

the best way is to take a smaller size hook like a 4 or a 6, and just barely put it through the back, not to deep because you'll kill it though. if you put it through the jaw it wont be able to swim and it will be useless and it's the same if you hook it through the tail, it can just rip right off. its kinda hard to explain it but its really easy to show someone but hopefully you can see what i mean. good luck fishin
