An offer from someone that you turn down, but suggest you will redeem it on another occasion. It's what people usually say to not hurt a persons feeling when they ask you to socialize and you don't really want to! You imply that you will take them up on it at another time!

A raincheck is used when a store holds a sale, and the items on sale are sold off quickly. The later shoppers can request a "raincheck" where the sale price applies to a later purchase of the item.
Basically, it means that someone can't do something now, but they'd like to do it later. So they take a "raincheck" on the event.

Raincheck can mean postponing an invitation until a more convenient time: Since you can't join us for dinner, we'll give you a rain check.
It can also apply to a ticket or coupon entitling a customer to purchase an item at a later date and for the same amount a sale item that is temporarily out of stock.

It means if a store is out of an advertised product ,they can give you a raincheck so you can have it at that price when it comes in even though the sale is off.

When someone says "can I get a raincheck?" It means they're not interested, or would like to do it at a later date.

it's a term used to say maybe next time exe: I'll have to take a raincheck on dinner tonight.(I can't do dinner tonight maybe next time.) or you had something planned but something came up. I'll have to take a raincheck on dinner tonight. ( Something came up we'll have to reschedule.)
or if you go to a swimming pool and it says NO RAINCHECKS. that means if you get rained out they won't give you your money back or a voucher for you to come back another day and not have to pay.

It started out for when bad weather would interrupt some sort of event, you would get a "raincheck" to reschedule the activity. Now it refers to anything you can't do or get on time...it's a guarantee that it will happen on a later date.

Historically it was because stores may have had supplies delayed due to inclement weather..hence term 'raincheck'. but it means that they will honor your sale purchase for a product they don't have in stock and when they get it you will have it at the advertised sale price.
