The manufacturing or creation of a wide range of tools/equipment to include: programmable logic controls/torque wrenches/precision cast tools/etc.. Anything that needs to be made to a certain spec that preforms a job. Like a screw driver needs to be built a certain way to complete its function correctly. Basically so guy who makes a lot more money then us crunches the numbers and makes a cad drawing of what these tools should be. Then its off to production and thus we get our product. It can be any kind of tool or instrument. Like a multimeter or a Allen key.
Hope this helps.

Instrumentation engineer is a person who design, construction and maintain an instrumentation system. These includes plant automation, process measurement. As an instrumentation engineer i work with gvk power plant i have look over the main control system, and sub control systems. His job is mainly depends on getting the accurate data from all equipment and maintain record manually and automatically. You may see how an cool drink fills into bottle exactly in time, traffic lights shows exact time interval and Alarms in an mall blow when in case of fire. All are closely designed, monitored by respective instrumentation engineers. This job is a critical job. But no highest paid job at any case. If pay matters Mechanical and Civil would be better for core companies. Sriteja Josyula Inst Engineer Gvk Power plant, Punjab

In industry, an instrumentation engineer specifies what is required for each piece of instrumentation equipment that is required to be used in a process for controlling flow rates of fluids and fuels, temperatures, pressures, etc., etc.

If there is something that needs to be controlled, an instrumentation engineer will specify the equipment (or control system) that is required to accomplish the control.

In most cases they also work with the instrument equipment suppliers to specify the equipment that they need, and they also assist in the installation and calibration of the instrumentation after it is purchased. Then, when the process is in operation, they are responsible for making sure that all the instrumentation is perfoming its control functions correctly.

In any ongoing process, say preparing any item in any foundry or any engineering company, there are various parameters or variables which should be monitored , indicated and contolled. e.g. pressure, temperature, level or flow rate etc.

If we consider temperature as an example and process requires it to be controlled between, say 30degree centigrade and 45 degree centigrade. Now this requires continuous monitoring of temperature with the help of any temperature transducer such as thermocouple or RTD ( Resistance Transducer ).You need an instrument where you will set two points as low (30 ) and high ( 45 ). If temperature goes beyond low or high set point, corrective action is taken to keep the temperature within limits.

This was one example where instrumentation engineering is required. It can be achieved with analog circuits which use operational amplifiers or otherwise nowadays microcontrollers or programmable logic controllers (PLC) are used.

An instrumentation engineer has to have thorough knowledge of two things, what is to be achieved and which method will get him exact output/result.

Analog circuits as it is are difficult to understand and need detailed study of available ICs. It could be thought of specialised electronics syllabus.

there are likely two answers to this question ...

1) the engineering associated with design, building and testing of instruments like sensors and controllers.

2) the engineering associated with the application of design, installing and testing of instruments being placed into systems.

What Is Instrumentation

2016-09-29 01:41:14 · answer #6 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

is the art and science of measurement and control. Instrumentation can refer either to the field in which instrument technicians and engineers work, or to the available methods of measurement and control and the instruments which facilitate this.

Instruments are devices which are used in measuring attributes of physical systems. The variable measured can include practically any measurable variable related to the physical sciences.
