I usually have a low fat sandwich for breakfast which includes one slice of whole wheat bread, avocado used as a spread to replace butter, 2 slices of pastromi or sometimes turkey cold cuts, some lettuce and other greens. Then for lunch I have a similar sandwich with one slice of bread, and I will just alternate the cold cuts and greens. In the evening I will usually have something more hardy like grains with steamed chicken and also 2 or 3 fruits throughout the day. I know that carbs are diet's #1 worst enemy, but I also know that wholegrain carbs are better, though I don't know if having 2 slices of bread in my diet jeaopardizing it. I would really appreciate some advice, thanks!

Oops...I meant to say whole grain - not whole wheat.

Carbs are an enemy if they are the wrong carbs.....with white bread being the worst, whole grain in the middle & whole wheat is the best you can have (& is a good source of fiber as well).

The main problem when I read your diet is the use of cold cuts. Not only are processed meat bad, but, high in sodium. Get rid of the pastrami all together. Instea of haveing the prossesed/cold cut turkey, put a slice of girlled turkey or chicken in your sandwich. This will make it a heck of a lot healthier.

Do you really like sandwiches that much to have them for breakfast? *lol* If you want to switch it up a bit, have a whole wheat waffle (Eggo makes them....but, make sure it's the 100% whole WHEAT one's) & spread a teaspoon of peanut butter on it.

Carbohydrates are not the enemy, they are the energy to power the body. The real enemy is total calorie count, regardless of where those calories came from. Complex carbohydrates, like whole grains are better than simple ones like the sugar in the bowl- because they absorb more slowly and provide other nutrition to boot. That pastrami is providing nitrates and preservatives which are a lot worse for you than the bread ever dreamed of being. The other advantage to having a whole grain in the diet is that it keeps the full feeling going longer, and provides much needed fiber and b-vitamins. We were designed to be primarily grain and vegetation eaters anyway, so your body would probably be happier and healthier if you ate that way as well. It sounds like your diet could use some more variety in there, beyond just the added thrill of two more pieces of whole grain bread. I don't see an iron source of any import, nor any dairy for some calcium. You need to pay attention to overall calorie count, not just the sources, and you should eat a little of everything that's good for you. There are no bad foods, just foods that we should eat less of, less often than others. Moderation is the great secret, not some mysterious combo that eliminates or reduces an entire category of food. So eat the second slice of bread and exercise a bit more, or cut back on some of those cold cuts. You need the grains more than the protein.

No problem with just 2 slices of whole grain bread. re you taking in enough calories though? For ages I have been trying to lose weight and the dietician at my local hospital keeps telling me I should be eating more! I've been on around 1000 calories a day for 3 years and now lost 98 pounds, but, it isn't enough and they told me because of my size my metabolism needs 1600 calories a day to get me going!

the whole grains are okay,, I would do porridge in the am for breakfast and not the sandwich.. or try a couple soft boiled eggs....
cold cuts are filled with salt and help you retain fluid..
change your lunch sandwich to tuna or salmon with avacado or greens .you can have the two slivces of bread then...
you have to have some carbos in order to have good brain function.. the whole wheat is a good choice....

I be a lot more concerned about the cold cuts.

I am surprised you take such care in your other choices, and eat cold cuts. What about tuna, peanut butter, or fresh chicken or turkey?

I don't see any reason why whole grain would be bad.
