A beach wedding I would have to say barefoot. Unless it is a dirty beach with a lot of debris, then I would say sandals. But it is a beautiful beach with soft, luscious sand, then go barefoot. I always wanted a beach wedding. I am getting married on September 1 this year but no beach.

Barefoot very comfortable but on a beach it's most of the time hot so sandals are properly the best chose and still comfortable and if they want to they can take them off easily, i wouldn't go with flats just not something i would think would be that comfortable.

Walking in the sand with shoes on can be a pain, even sandals. I would suggest people bring flip flops or sandals and that way, they have the option of going barefoot during the ceremony, and if they need to put their shoes on it's easy. I would say barefoot is the best policy, plus the feeling of toes in the sand is wonderful!

I'm guessing your the bride. I'm currently in the final stages of planning my beach wedding also. If this is a wedding where you are going to have a lot of travelers they are going to ask lots of questions (where to stay, what to bring, and what to wear). Give them the opportunity to choose what ever they want, just let them know the basics: how far is the walk from the hotel to the ceremony site, is it in the sand or on a dock and will there be chairs or is everyone standing.
I have a mix of young and old coming to my beach wedding and the young are going to walk to the site in the flip flops that we are providing in the room gift baskets and go barefoot like the wedding party at the ceremony. However I also have so very conservative and traditional grandparents who will wear their shoes no matter what I tell them about sand in their shoes :-)
Just relax and have fun go with the flow and let your guests do the same.

For my beach wedding, the wedding party was barefoot during the ceremony. Afterwards, the girls wore white flip flops that all matched. I think being barefoot adds to the beauty of having a wedding on a beach...

Are you the bride or a guest?
The bride will set the tone for everyone else. So it's really up to you. Personally at my wedding I wont wear any shoes for the ceremont on the beach (it should be cute with my long, flowing white dress and my hair blowing all over the place) and the reception will be up in our yard so I'll wear a nice pair of sandals or flats for the reception.
I'm placing baskets at the bottom of the steps to the beach so people can take their shoes off it they dont want them to get sandy and then put them back on on their way back up to the reception.

I would recommend to your guest not to wear shoes but that they have the option of wearing sandals or just going barefoot, either way people get to choose which one so they could be the most comfortable. If you're going to have a reception or something indoors or on grass tho you may want to tell them sandals.

I am in the "beach wedding planning" stages myself!!!!
I will add you to my contacts, maybe we can help each other out:)
I was thinking, nice, yet casual clothes, like my hunnie is going to wear a nice white button up dress shirt, like polo shirt, and some nice cargos with some flip flops....
Same for most of the guests:) I may wear something a bit more dressy, because i'm the bride.... but, I don't see the shoe issue a big issue, I mean it will all come together if you tell them casual, some may wear sandals, some not:)

Here's an idea: decorate a basket with flowers and ribbon appropriate for your theme and have someone standing on the boardwalk indicating shoes can go into the basket. Everyone can drop their shoes off, stroll through the sand, and then come back and get their shoes. Also have a few towels on hand so people can rinse their feet off.
But I'd totally go barefoot.

Sandals or barefoot, whichever people are more comfortable doing.
Shoes get too much sand in them, unless you are going to have plastic to stand on to keep it out.
