I work at LAX. In every terminal on the arrival level (lower) there is a Travelers Aid Booth.. go to them and ask to see their book on Things to Do. If you have only 4 hrs that is really only a couple of hours to kill before being ready for the next flight. About two miles from the Airport is a Antique Car Museum if that is something you would like. They are open from 10AM to 4 PM Sat and Sun. But between those hours they are open Tues thru Friday if you call them first. 1-310-909-0950. You can go to a mall, there is a bus that can take you there. You can go on a short walking tour in Westchester. You ride the "C" shuttle (its free) to the C Parking lot and just walk north a few blocks and there are lots of shops to look at. And an In N Out Burger joint. In the Tom Bradley Terminal upstair there are shops and restaurants that are open to the public (not behind security) where you can spend a couple of hours. See Travelers Aid for assistance. There are alot of solicitors out there, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY...Have fun.

Considering your time constraints there isn't really much. LAX isn't near anything, and some of the near by areas you don't want to be wandering in at night. The only possibilities might be the Marina dey Rey area or maybe Santa Monica. The Hollywood sign is roughly a 35 mi / 56 km round trip and would be a very expensive cab ride.

I was in LA last week visiting and getting around there is always a problem! Honestly with the way traffic is in LA, you might not have time to do very much. The one place I was thinking that isn't too far is Santa Monica. You can go to the pier and ride the ferris wheel or other carnival rides
or down to Third Street Promenade and people watch while getting something to eat.
I hope you have a good time and don't miss your flight!!

4 hours at LAX... that's not very much time. Maybe a cab ride to Santa Monica Pier, or Hollywood Blvd, or Mulholland Drive. I hope it's late, because otherwise you could be stuck in traffic and miss your flight.

People usually get to the airport 4 hours before a flight just to get through security. Better stay at the airport.

Go to the airport gift shop and look at all the post cards. You will have seen the best of Los Angeles and won't have to hassle getting back through security.

Yeah. Do it in this airport.
Just going out of the airport may take you 1/2 hr. with traffic.
Nothing nearby anyway.

It takes between two to three hours to finish up all the security stuff. Just sit tight.
