I sweat more when I run over bicycling, but I can bicycle a lot longer because it does not hurt the herniations in my back.

Makes no difference. You may be sweating just as much on your bike, but you don't notice because it evaporates faster.

Sweat rate has nothing to do with calories burned, and very little to do with fitness level. Sweat composition does change as you become more fit. Your body learns to conserve electrolytes if you do a lot of training in the heat.

Funny that this question should come up.

Sweating...I always beleive that when you sweat you were losing weight or getting fitter. I do not sweat, I never have...during any activity. My mum sweats bad, to the point of having to keep a towel with her.

I read up on it and it says that you ae more likely to sweat of you are overweight. I am 2 stone overweight and my mum underweight.

Still confused I asked my doctor who said it makes no difference and the sweating part is just due to hormones and the amount of fluids you take.

Hope this helps.

The amount you sweat is a rough indication of how hard you're working, but I wouldn't trust it in your case. When you're cycling, you're moving faster, so your sweat probably evaporates faster due to the air movement over your body.

If I was you, I'd stick to cycling. You're trying to improve your health, not damage it. If you're causing problems in your back by running, I'd say you should avoid that.
