Only when it the truth needs to be heard. If you think the truth is going to hurt someone, I mean really hurt them then i feel it's best to spare them the truth.

Yes I do believe in telling the truth, as I like to be told the truth,
it's an interesting question you pose because most people I know think you are strange if you are honest and if they had the chance to benefit the think that lying is ok,but yes telling the truth is not always popular and can get you into trouble also, but it is wort telling the truth for you know that you are pleasing God when you are honest, I was in the situation one day I was paying a couple of bills in the poist office,(telephone bill, and electricity bill) and the woman at the desk gave me the an extra$50 back in my change without realizing at the time it would have come in very handy because I was short that weekso I could have been tempted to keep it, but my concience said that, if I keep it I will not be honest and God would know I did a bad thing because this woman may have to loose $50 out of her pay if I did it and she couldn't account for where the money went,so I listened to my conscience and gave the money back, the other people in the post office including some of the post office staff were looking at me strange probably thinking I was silly giving it back, but I don't think so because if I was in that womans place I would like someone to give the money back too and not have to pay for it.

I myself almost always try to tell the truth. For example, I was ever been sacked by a company because of my faults. Afterwards, whenever the job interviewers asked me to fill in the application form including the reason to leave the company I still tell the truth. I found it very difficult to get a job if I told the interviewers that I was ever sacked.
However, I still get a job with higher salary then before. Someone may think telling the truth has no advantages but honesty really help me a lot including:
1. I feel peace because I am following the commands of the bible;
2. I get many benefits of being honest including getting more good friends. Some person may think I am faithful and reliable.
We will be judged by Jesus according to our behaviour. Jesus will reward us if we insist to be honest.

I believe that honesty, rather than truth, is the best policy. I don't feel that I do so for any religious reason, but because it seems the right thing to do. I see Deity as providing me with free-will, and doesn't tell me what to do, just informs me of possible consequences of actions.
The heart of issue of lying or not, is ethics and isn't directly religious You've posted in Religion so I try to say why religion is relevant to ethics.
Religions usually provide a list morals, from which the followers of that religion can be expected to have based their ethical decisions on.
It's much like each religion has its own Acceptable Use Policy. People agree to an AUP because it suits them. Their ethics are shared with others who have accepted the same AUP. If someone says they've signed up to some ethics, but not seen to do so, its seen as betrayal. There will also be disagreement between people who believe in different sets of ethics.

Yes I do. There is a lot of rationalizing and justifying these days over not telling the truth but the truth is always the best policy. A lie by definition is a deliberate attempt to deceive so sometimes we can be lying when we're not saying a word.

You know ,I have had the same situations in that regard. I've told the truth at times when a little white lie probably would have been better - but my morality/conscience won't let me. I'm not sure what to tell you - by telling the truth you are obeying God. That is most important.

yes, because lies can lead to more lies and those to yet more lies. Then it gets found out and the fireworks are huge!
There are ways to tell the truth in a diplomatic, non-offensive manner... :) In any case why should the truth always be viewed as negative?

You know what's funny? You can lie to yourself so much, that over time, it's possible you may forget it's a lie, and then believe it to be the truth. So if from that point on, what you believe to be true is actually a lie, so are you still telling the truth?

Yes I believe in telling the truth. But that doesn't mean we have to volunteer the truth when no question was asked. Like, we shouldn't just blurt out, "My that's an ugly shirt!"
