Galations 3:19-26

19 ¶ Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

21 ¶ Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 But the Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23 ¶ But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterward be revealed.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Blah, blah .... Find me one Christian who does not sin and I will eat a piece of cake. Every Christian I have met are the biggest sinners of all. They are very judgemental people. Telling someone they are going to hell is a sin. So there.

No.

As you refer to, sin is an outdated concept written thousands of years ago by primitive people. Society has evolved much since then. Unlike then, we have figured out that women should not be considered property or a kind of pet. We now generally consider slavery an abomination. And we don't think that slaughtering an innocent animal relieves someone of their wrongdoing, though that is still practiced both literally and figuratively among the religious.

Of course, religions have realized how outdated they are to some extent. That's why there's a continual attempt to update the interpretations of those old rules of what is sin, and adopt new rules that correspond more closely to what people have already figured out.

Religion makes people morally lazy by spoon-feeding them lists of what they should consider to be sin or not. It also discourages and meaningful dialog on the topic. Therefore, religious people tend to blindly apply old lists, usually interpreted by the current ruling power, to any given situation without any real thought about whether it really is a good thing or not.
