I'm with you. When I was on Vics or Percs I had a dramatic increase in energy, even with the methadone I'm now on. I say it's because it does dull my pain & I can do things I could'nt before when the pain was unbearable. Stay on it it is not an adverse reaction that's why it was made. I do know people who it does knock out though, they are the ones who should cut back or stop completely or at least give it to me. Them may take 1 where I take 5 or six. I guess to that all of our metabolisms are different.

Whats Is Hydrocodone

I actually reacted to your question HOPING to find a good answer for myself, as I've reacted this way to Hydrocodone (and many other prescription pain relieving drugs) the SAME way now for many years, and its been MORE than annoying as it will keep me up all night at times when I will need it most (I have a broken back in many places, lots of surgeries). The best my doctors could tell me is that it is basically an allergic reaction that is sort of common, not life threatening for most.
So during the day I could take pain meds, and if I had pain later in the day or at night, I was given light sedatives to help me get to sleep thru the pain , normally the pain and/or the pain medicine would keep me up all night long. The thinking behind giving me a sedative at night was if I could sleep thru the pain, my condition would be improved for the rest and healing I recieved during my sleep.
I did this for many years, and it seemed to work ok. I just noticed your question though, and sort of hoped for a more definitive answer "why" these pain drugs react the way they do to me (and you!) but not to other people. Hope my answer helps you even a little, sorry it couldn't be more medically based.
Best wishes, may you be pain free soon!

I take hydrocodone specifically for the energetic lift it gives me; if I don't take it I am very lethargic. Knowing it's addictive character, though, I limit myself to one a day. The drug must have varying chemical effects on different brains/bodies.

I agree with ChaliQ - for me it takes away some of my pain so I can actually get things done.

When I'm in pain I don't feel like doing anything constructive, but ease the pain and I can be constructive again.

If hydrocodone is doing that to you, you are having an adverse reaction to it. Best put that drug aside and list it as an allergy if anyone asks. (I know not a true allergy, but list it as one anyway).
Let your doctor know, he/she should prescribe something else for you.
