I mean it does cause accidents and it is disrespectful and i think it is a way of provoking someone. I usually look at the person behind me and it's some soccer mom talking on her cell phone. My "friend" says that people do it because they probably have somewhere to go, but don't i have somwhere to go to? does that mean i need to deal with the a**hole behind me while im getting there just because im not in a hurry? and where are they going? because every time i get to where i'm going their never there. When I drive I like to look around, to the side at a tree or whatever, but it always seems that the person behind me dosen't respect that. It really bothers me and I want to beat the s**t out of them! how come people are brave like wolves in they're cars but when they get out of their cars they're like sheep?

It is - in the UK it's called "driving without due care and attention"

Most other nations have a similar offence, either specifically mentioning driving too close or more generally under a heading such as "dangerous driving" or "behaving in a manner liable to cause an accident".

Not only is tailgating illegal but it is also highly dangerous and intimidating to other drivers. Driving 2 feet from the bumper of the car in front and expecting them to just move over is an idiotic thing to do - there may be a perfectly good reason why they're going slow (e.g. traffic slowing down ahead, a fault with their car that has just happened) or why they're in the fast lane (not least the other morons who overtake on the inside). If you tailgate and an accident happens as a result then it's YOUR FAULT.

I once witnessed a guy tailgating a truck; the truck slowed down due to stationary cars ahead and the guy went into the back of the truck. He died.

Yes I think it is illegal for people to tailgate, why because of so many reason and one of them is perhaps accident that can happen when the other person is tailgating another. On what purpose, could be plenty. One is they have unfinished business with the other person, second just for fun, some teens find it thrilling tailgating a crush or just a familiar face on campus or neighborhood, third criminal elements in society once they bump the other car naturally they will come out and check out the damage that is when they scoop out and rob the other person's car or belongings or just kill them.

So it is unsafe to tailgate and if needed be could be reported to the police in time.

Tailgating is a bad thing some people do!
I understand sometimes we have to be in rush to do things but not in this way, another fact I hate someone tailgates me when I drive because I feel very angry and sometimes I pool over on the side of the road to let him go and continue driving safe.

Following too closely already is illegal. If tailgaters hit someone they should be fully responsible for all damages. I can't stand when someone's tailgating me too.

Did you ever slow down (not slam on the brakes) and watch them start screaming from you rear view? It's pretty funny really.

I tailgate, frequently, but I only tailgate people who are in the far left lane, going far slower than me, and have plenty of room to move over, but won't. It's aggravating. The fast lane is for passing and if someone comes up close behind you that means you aren't going fast enough, MOVE OVER!!!
