My mom is going to the beach with us in a few weeks, but her fibromyalgia in her legs has been horrifying. She still wants to go, but I don't know how she is going to make the 5 + hour trip. What are some things I can do to help relieve her pain while traveling? She really wants to go because she believes this will be her last opportunity to ever go.

I've found that malic acid and magnesium supplements help quite a bit. There are so many things one can take, but each fibro patient responds differently. No one thing seems to work well for everyone. Here's a couple of links for you:
Dominie Bush's nice website: http://www.fms-help.com

Check this site out and your mom will have the hope to get better, yes better and she can go to the beach again and again.

Check out my blog to on 360 it will tell you a little more.

For the current trip Advil lots of water (maybe even a water pill any kind of water retention will cause Fibro pain to skyrocket!) and stretching. Thoses heat pads that you microwave or the little ones you can get for camping that you open and shake help to relax the muscles. Also, walking a small bit and then a warm bath before bed helps to calm the legs.
I had a wonderful accupunturist that did a french method with little pins that looked like baby ear peircing earings, that went in your ear and stayed for days. If I could pinpoint an area that was most bothersome he could normally get it to go away for several hours and when the pain returned it was not nearly as bad.

Ok, Lyrica and Savella are 2 medicines to regard fibromyalgia discomfort. Neurontin (gabapentin is the customary identify) works on nerve discomfort and is what I used to be switched to as soon as the Lyrica and Savella began to lose their effectiveness. Antidepressants comparable to Pristiq, Effexor and Cymbalta are typically prescribed to aid with discomfort and despair which many humans with fibromyalgia have on a few degree. Tri-cyclic antidepressants comparable to Elavil also are well for discomfort and will aid with insomnia that a few humans enjoy. These are those that instantly got here to brain. Hope this is helping!

Without knowing what meds she currently takes, I'm not real sure. I currently take: Neurontin, Ultram, Lexapro and a muscle relaxant-Flextra-650. Riding in a vehicle for long trips (sometimes short trips too!) get to me too, but taking Tylenol every 4 hours along with my other meds and stopping often and walking around helps some. Mine is in my neck, back and shoulders the worst but, when my back hurts it hurts down my legs also. Oh yea, the heat packs you can buy at WalMart, etc., these are good too. I hope she goes on the trip, good luck!

Has you mom ever tried the drug Lyrica? It's a med that came onto the market almost two years ago. It isn't specifically for Fibro, but it really helps it. It sure helps me. It may be too late to try before the trip, but she may want to ask her doctor about prescribing it for her.
