Here is a scientific answer. Day has been divided by God into 5 parts. Dusk (we call it Fajer), noon (we call it Zohor), afternoon (we call it Asr), Dawn (we call it Magrib) & Night (we call it Isha). To pray five times a day, is to bow to God in every part of the day, minimum once. We can pray more, but we HAVE TO pray 5 times a day.

More information for you, how did they know when it was prayer time in the past, when there were no clocks & watches. Dusk is simply when the sky turns to red before the sun rises. Noon is when objects and their shadows are equal (they were sticking poles in the ground and checking the length of the shadow). Afternoon is where the shadow is exactly double the length of the object (or the pole). Dawn, is when the sun is out of sight, but there is still light. Night time is a tricky one. They divided night into 3 equal parts from sunset to sunrise. Prayer time is at the end of the first part, beginning of the second part. Cool stuff Isn't it??????

First, please understand that there are two types of prayer in Islam. There is du'a wich is supplications and that is when we ask God for something. Then there is salah and that is a prayer of worship.

5 daily prayers are part of the 5 pillars of Isalm
Stopping for a few moments every day to pray (salah) and worship God is a reminder, it's a time to get away from the world even for just a bit...and then return. It also promotes cleanliness (at all levels) because we make ablutions before we pray.

If you just got done praying would you really do something bad...it can happen but helps remind you that God is always knows what you do and that you will have to pray again in a few hours or so...you probably wouldn't feel good about it then.

We actively take a rest in the day and cleanse ourselves physically and offer up praise and worship to God 5 times a day. Five times is what is obligatory anything more is voluntary.
There is no special meaning behind 5 except that we believe this is what God instructed as the obligatory prayers.
On the spiritual side most people pray because they love God and want to worship him. As Muslims this is true and prayer is part of our religion. One part of being Muslim is praying the 5 obligatory prayers a day. Alhumdulilah.

The five daily prayers are called salat. There is a sequence of words and bodily positions. Because a Muslim stops whatever he or she is doing at the time in order to pray, he or she is constantly reminded to put God before all other thoughts.

When to pray:
Dawn = 2 cycles
Noon = 4 cycles
Mid-afternoon = 4 cycles
Sunset = 3 cycles
Evening = 4 cycles

Our Pray is called Salah..

first:praying is one of the five basics of being a Muslim...it's the closest moment with you and your creator....it's called salat in Arabic with means the connection between Allah and us...during prayer all Muslims from all different cultures and lives are united and become equal...we can ask God during prayer for anything and he's listening...the point is,praying is a high spiritual thing that we live 5 times a day,at dawn,at midday,in the afternoon,at sunset and at night....so we're worshiping God during the whole day..

it would be great if all workplaces have been given off at midday on each Friday and start up an prolonged weekend for all and assorted and artwork one hour extra effective contained in something of the week. this would possibly not in common terms enable Muslims to decide for fri. prayers, yet for Jewish persons to coach for Sabbath, and something of the folk ought to take exhilaration in an prolonged weekend. working from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM each and every day with a one hour lunch harm or getting off at 5:30 PM with a 0.5 hour lunch would artwork for many folk. On Fridays you could artwork for 4 hours and artwork 9 hours each and every day on 4 days of the week. 4 and 0.5 day week, with 2 and 0.5 time without work will in good condition everybody!! one extra hour an afternoon would no longer be that undesirable in case you start up artwork 0.5 an hour early and end 0.5 hour later.

It's more worship than praying. It is mandatory for Muslims to praise their Creator five times a day because of course, we owe Him everything. Also, it's difficult to - for instance, get drunk or hit your wife, etc. - knowing that in an hour or so you are going to have to humble yourself to stand before God.

I hope you find your answers.
