Now why would you have need of matches on a plane? smoking is prohibited!

Any device that creates fire is banned, and if not maybe somebody in Airline security needs to asked why not.

Safety matches can be carried in checked-in luggage only. Any object that can ignite a fire, including lighters and matches, are strictly prohibited as carry-on with passengers, either in baggage or person. These will be confiscated during security screening, when you are asked to empty your pockets.

Yes, I think you can take safety matches on-board. What you cannot take is a lighter.

yes, but you are limited to the amount. each passenger is allowed about two boxes of matches, about the size of a hotel box of matches. the rule was changed to allow them due to the number of complaints

I hope not. No one needs them on board.
