It is the Year of the Golden Pig which, according to Chinese folklore, only occurs once every 60 years. It is also, as some people say, The Year of the Pig, but Golden Pig is more specific for this year. It goes from February 18th 2007 - February 6th 2008.
The order of Chinese zodiac animals are Boar/Pig, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster then Dog.
The Chinese zodiac animal signs are a 12 year cycle used to date years, and represent a cyclical concept of time. It is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is why it starts at around mid-January/February. This also determines the Chinese New Year Dates, as it is the first day of the new year containing a full moon.
Next year will be the Year of the Rat, which will be from 7th February 2008 - 25th January 2009.

Most of 2007 belongs to the year of the Pig / Boar. ( The chinese lunar calender year starts and ends between late Jan - mid Feb of western calenders )
Likewise, most of 2008 will belong to the year of the Rat / Mouse which ranked 1st in the cycle of 12 animals.
The order goes as follows
2008 Rat/Mouse, 2009 Bovine/Bull, 2010 Tiger, 2011 Rabbit/Hare, 2012 Dragon, 2013 Snake, 2014 Horse, 2015 Goat/Ram, 2016 Monkey, 2017 Chicken/Rooster, 2018 Dog, 2019 Pig/Boar.

It is the year of the pig for the Chinese but it is actually the year of the boar for the Japanese. Next year will be the year of the rat both for the Chinese and Japanese (and other countries that use this calendar).
