Call an emergency veterinary facility. They will probably recommend that he be seen for an injection +/- pills to go home.

Imagine how you would feel if you had a severe allergic reaction that itched so bad it was painful and you felt miserable. Possibly the emergency facility can give you advice over the phone however most places don't.

With allergic reactions the itching can be horrible but in worse case senarios the swelling can progress to the neck and inside the throat much like when people have acute allergic reactions.

Very important!! Dont wait - at least talk to a veterinary professional asap. Please call. U will feel better if you do!

- a concerned emergency lic. vet. tech.

P.S. The concerned person with the benedryl dosages is recommending the wrong dose and technically it is illegal to rec. dosages etc. with a lic. and exam of the patient.

Facial swelling can be serious as it may also effect the ability to breathe.

I do use Benedryl or Prednizone, but I know my dogs and I also know when to go see the vet.

The last time my dog got stung on the nose by a bee and immediately started swelling my vet had me give Benedryl and watch the dog. He said if the swelling got worse after 20 minutes to come right down. The Benedryl worked that time.

But without seeing your dog and knowing where the swelling started, I'd say go see a vet. It could be serious.

I know how you feel. My dog got stung by a bee in the mouth, and her face, meaning the WHOLE face, swelled up. I was bawling, because I thought she would die. Haha, but dont worry, your dog probably got stung, and wont die. Or she had a reaction to something outside, or got bit by something. Give her water and just watch her breathing. That is very important. If her breathing gets fast, or slows down, that is bad. You will need to take her to an overnight vet, or take him to the vet first thing in the morning. For now, just give him lots of love, and some fresh cold water, and maybe some ice to chew on, which will numb the area and make the swelling go down. If he got stung or bit by something, and he seems in pain, give him some Benadryl- Allergy Formula. DO NOT GIVE HIM BENADRYL COLD FORMULA.

I got this off a site------

"I use Benadryl and give it as a dose of 25 mg. For dogs under 50 lbs. (never use in dogs under 20 lbs.) and in dogs larger that that, I use 50 mg."

Could be any number of things....allergy to a detergent, food, animal bite/sting. Could be some sort of plant he stuck his nose in...or another animal bit him, perhaps? It's impossible for any of us to tell. The important thing is that you remain calm and try and contact an emergency vet or clinic in your area. If the swelling isn't too severe, you can wait until the morning and just take him to his regular vet. Good luck!

yeah he's probably had an allergic reaction to something.... i would watch him very carefully and if it gets much worse call an emergency vet clinic right away... id look for a phone number now incase u need it in a hurry.
and make sure he continues to breathe fine and that his airways arent swelling too, if he appears to be having trouble take him to a vet straight away.
dont cry he is depending on you to stay calm and look after him!

He may have been bitten by something- hopefully. If not i would take him to the emergency dog hospital (there should be one close) because he may have eaten something that he is allergic to or a stroke. Hurry honey. Hope to have helped

take him to the emergency clinic if the swelling is near the throat or increasing. if you think its just a bite or sting of some sort (localized) you can give him just plain old benadryl or children's benadryl.
