I have been off lexapro 20mg for a little while now . I cant understand the withdrawal symptoms everyone is talking about. The only thing is I am still depressed. Alot of it stems from money problems. But I have marriage issues and body issues. I feel like it never worked for me in the first place. I am and have been managing my depression without meds for over 3 months. I have had a pill every once in a while but not enough to establish in my system. I am now out and I dont experience withdrawal symptoms. What am I supposed to feel? I was diagnosed with depression over a year ago.

Most individuals do not experience a severe withdrawal from Lexapro especially in your case, where you were not taking it regularly for an extended period of time.
You said it your explanation, "I have been managing my depression w/o meds for 3 mon" but at the beginning of the paragraph you stated how you are still depressed and some of the difficulty issues you are dealing with. My suggestion would be give Lexapro a real chance. Take it everyday for 6-8 weeks and see if it does improve your quality of life. If not, then you can honestly say it does not work for you. If the reason you stopped taking it is related to the cost of the medication, visit www.forestpharm.com/pap/ . Forest pharmaceuticals has a patient assistance program to help individuals obtain their medication at no cost. If you go to that website it will explain it to you as well as, at the bottom there is a link to the application. Your doctor will have to sign it as well as send a prescription with the application but it is a great program.

If your depression is still so bad that it's interfering with your everyday life and pulling you down, then you need to seek help. Both counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy have proven effective for treating depression.

If these don't help, then it may be that you need to try medication again; either a different dose of the Lexapro, or an entirely new anti depressant. Speak to your doctor and if necessary, get referred to a psychiatrist; they really are the best when it comes to medications.

If you only take a pill every once in awhile, then you won't have withdrawal symptoms.
