The 2 answers are probably legally true, however if the situation is right (ie no witness) and you'r positive of winning I'd be in like a robber's dog. Bring back the biff!!!

You'd probably go to jail. The thief would sue you and win.

Someone suggested calling the cops. They'd come, stand around asking you a lot of questions and you'll never see your stereo again. Cops just make reports. Do you think they're going to actually LOOK for your stereo? hahahaha

I feel for you. I don't like thieves.

Get a camera, sneak outside let him steal it and take a picture of it. Make sure you get the face. Thats all you need to do. What if the guy had a gun and you tried to beat him? And call the police while its happening and tell them to come with sirens/lights off.

Usually, the police don't do anything because they can't find the person. If you want to take the chance and try to "detain" the person yourself, go ahead. But I'd rather he took my stereo than my life. I have insurance on both, but the stereo is easier to replace.

No, you can't legally beat them up. But I'll be honest with you, if I caught someone breaking into my car I would beat them until they were whimpering, and then claim they attacked me when I tried to prevent the burglary. Does that make me a bad person? I don't know, I'm just being honest.

Legally, no, you cannot beat the person up and will be charged criminally if you do so; you should contact the police if you find someone stealing your stuff.

No. It is a felony to steal car stereo but aggrevated assault is bigger felony than stealing car stereo. Most likely you will not get into trouble if you catch him/her red-handed. But, please take a lawyer's advice first.

Sure. Go ahead. Then I'll arrest you and you'll be in jail long after the stereo bandit.

you would go to jail and he'd be able to press charges on you and you can on him stealing is 5 to 10 years if he's an adult and prison will give you what you want, he'll probably end up sumbodys sex *****, and get beat up

No! This just happened to me 2 months ago. I heard a noise, looked outside and seen him in my front seat, realizing I didnt lock my car I grabbed my remote and locked him in. Then I went out, grabbed him and proceeded to fatten his lip...long story short I was arrested for it. The night behind bars was pretty sh**ty!
