Your comparing apples to oranges. They each have a different purpose.
30-30 is a good brush gun with a max range of about 200 yards accurately. Good for anything white tail deer size or smaller.
A 20 gauge has an effective range of about 40 yards tops. It shoots many tiny lead or steel shot pellets which scatter out and will cover an area of about 22-25 inches at 30 yards, but will have very little thump to them when they reach the target.
If you wanna shoot animals on the ground, get the 30-30. If you wanna shoot animals in the air, get the 20 gauge (even though a 12 gauge is much more versatile)

Yeah your comparing apples to oranges it all depends on what your going to be doing with it, your more than likely not going to drop a deer as well with a 20 than a 3030.

The 20 ga. is more versitile. You can't exactly use a rifle to hunt birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc. It can be done, but the 20 ga. is designed for that purpose. For hunting deer, bear, etc. both would work great. If I only had one to choose, I would opt for the 20 ga. Personally I have both and like them.

For a deer, yes. For duck or quail, no. You're comparing a centerfire rifle to a shotgun. A shotgun shoots a load of pellets (or also can fire a single slug, but not accurately). It's a short range weapon usually used on small moving targets. A 3030 can be accurate and maintain lethal force at a much greater distance.

that is hardly an answerable question, they are two totally different guns, if you want to hunt deer the 30-30 is the better option, but the 20-gauge would be better suited for things such as Partridge (grouse), or rabbits, squirrels, and possibly geese.

in my eyes .30-.30 by far but it depends on what your hunting. if your hunting bigger game such as deer, bear, ect. you should look into a good .30-.30 such as a Winchester Model 94 lever action, but if your hunting smaller game such as duck, goose, quail, squirrel or rabbit a 20 gauge is much better. It all depends on what your hunting but if your going for bigger game its a .30-.30 by a long shot but you have to be comfortable with it. good luck huntin

Two different types of firearms for two different purposes.
Better is a "judgement", I use my 20 guage 870 for busting clays and shooting quail where I use my rifle for ripping paper and shooting large game such as deer, elk or hogs.

Better for what? I wouldn't want to have to feed myself by quail-hunting with a rifle. It's a better choice, though, for deer or hogs. Guns are tools, and each has its purposes. Your question is somewhat akin to asking which is better, a hammer or a screwdriver.

A 30/30 is only a better gun at ranges of say greater than 50yds. Inside that range it is much better. 30/30 doesn't have much oomph behind it, I'd take the 20ga.

like they said it depends on what you want to shoot. the 30-30 is in my opinion a much cooler gun. lever action . when you shoot it you feel like a cowboy they are really fun. i would suggest getting a marlin.
