My son is 3 years old. He has more toys than we know what to do with. It's actually overwhelming because I spend half my life trying to figure out how to organize all of his stuff. His aunt has a real spending problem and much of the time she buys him things that he already has too much of (like stuffed animals) or things he can't use (like 144 foam airplanes from Oriental Trading). I appreciate her generosity but with everything she buys him and everything that everyone else does too he just has way too much stuff and there is honestly nowhere to put it. She will even buy something for him when we are visiting her and I'll often purposely leave it at my Mom's house for him to play with and she'll say "aren't you going to take it with you when you go home?" I also live 1500 miles away and she constantly mails him things.I feel like if she wants to do something nice for him, buy him a savings bond, or pay for him to go to gymnastics or something. Is there a nice way to say this?

Next time i talked to her i would just tell her how much i appreciate all of the nice things she does for my child but right now we're running out of room for all of these things. Make sure you let her know that he loves her even if she didn't buy him gifts =) Then you can politely imply buying him a membership to a gymastics club or something because he would really enjoy it. My grandmother does the same thing to my little brother's and cousins.

All you have to do is tell her that you honestly have no room for any more toys but if she would like to do something for him you do have some ideas. If she is open to it great but if not, sell, sell, sell. Sell or donate the things that he doesn't need. A school or day care would love some of these things just make sure that you put enough away in the basement in order to switch toys and give your little boy a variety.

Good luck and it could be worse, he could be the only one not getting gifts!!!!

Hey give the extra stuff to a school or a place that needs them. You can't stop her--even when you tried. Don't unwrap the stuff--take it to a shelter or throw the old stuff out--just get rid of it--a 3 year old won't miss it. get a grip---have a yard sale and sell the stuff. Give some stuff to a family that has kids and no toys---use your brain here.

I would just tell her that he already has too many toys. If she is still sending you gifts after that i would just dump them in a donation box. At least that way they don't go to waste.

tell her this is way too over the top, there is no room and you will have to give some of it away--tell her to wait until b-days or Christmas, he is getting over whelmed. just simply tell her.
