I just want the best advice regarding driving to do all of our sighseeing vs. using pub. transport. or walking everywhere. Keep in mind we are a family of 4 with a very young daughter, should we take along a light stroller everywhere? Would we be able to get a lot accomplished if we drive?

DO NOT DRIVE IN NYC! It will take you 40 mins just to get a few blocks, seriously. Public transportation (the subway) and walking is the way to go. The kids will love the train ride and all the sights along the way if you walk. Definitely bring a light stroller for your youngest daughter. You will get alot more accomplished with no car.

There's a company in NY called City Escapes that do a complete 'favorite sights' tour by bus in one day. It includes a trip out to the Statue of Liberty. Best thing is you can leave your stuff on the bus when you're visiting some place. Some times you won't need the stroller, or coats etc. The trip includes lunch. It's not expensive & sure beats worrying about traffic & parking.

If you drive, plan to spend more time sitting in traffic looking at the back end of the car in front of you than seeing many sights.

Your best bet - figure out EXACTLY what you want to see (such as Empire State Building, FAO Schwartz, etc.) and determine what end of the city to start on and go from there. If you drive into the city, park the car for the day and use the shoe leather express or public transpo for the rest of the day.

WALK. There's no other way to put it. You will be so glad you walked. If you get tired you can get a cab very quickly or even take the subway. My husband took me when I was 7months pregnant & our 12 year old son. I am so glad that we walked because if you take a car there are going to be1of 2 things that will happen here & that is "slow traffic" or "major traffic jams". Everything is so close that you would be constantly trying to find a parking place. If you are going to be in New York City you don't need a car at all.

You would get lots of places if you drive. I don't think bringing a stroller would be good in NYC. I know when I went nobody had kids on the street and if they did they were carried or they were in a stroller but to be honest, I only saw 2 people with a stroller. Also I saw lots of kids on top of tour buses and they looked like they enjoyed it.

I'm gonna agree, you'll miss too much, Walking around is good - do not be afraid of the subway, it's the fastest cheapest way to travel. There are also hop on, hop off tours of the city that may be fun

Take the train, (subway) forget about driving in the city. The subway pretty much goes anywhere you wanna go in the city. OR get on one of those hop on hop off double decker tour buses

Don't even drive around. You'll be stuck in traffic for hours, which will cost you more of your time viewing attractions.
