I like the dwarf hamsters better. I had two a Russian blue and an albino and they were both very sweet one was male and one female. They shouldn't have trouble climbing at least mine didn't. As far a biting I have never been bite by one.

Chinese dwarf hamsters are the best. they are the least aggressive out of them all and don't run away from you. they also come out a lot more through the day than other dwarfs. they have like sticky feet so they can climb and they can also jump. i have tubes for mine but i made ladders for mine to climb us just in case. don't get a cage with wires in as well because they can squeeze through nayerly anything. males are the friendliest type and you should only get one. if you get two females one will probably kill the other one. i would advise you to buy a male chines dwarf hamster because they are the friendliest and cutest. good luck

I have a dwarf hamster and I have also raised hamsters before. Female hamsters are a better choice if you don't want a pet that bites often as males tend to be more aggressive (it is also my experience that male hamsters are lazy). If you don't want your pet to bite, make sure you let it get used to you in the beginning before you begin handling it regularly. Dwarf hamsters are usually friendly. I have found no major differences in behavior between them and other kinds of hamsters. As for the tubes, my dwarf hamster is a good climber, I would just make sure that the tube reaches low enough to the floor of the cage for it to reach.

Check the spacing of the bars in the cage (assuming you don't have one of those plastic or glass tanks). Hamsters can squeeze through unbelievably small gaps, and a cage that could hold a Syrian might be just a squeeze away from freedom for a dwarf hamster!

i have had ppl say that their dwarf hamsters were mean and bit alot
i have a teddybear hamster and she is cute, and friendly, and nice, and kind, and gentle, and adorable, and *sigh* she's sooo cute.......
my hamster only bit me twice bcuz i had forgotten 2 feed her (4 2 whole days) but she wouldnt have bitten if i remembered 2 feed her
note:
LEAVE THE HAMSTERS FOOD DISH INSIDE ITS CAGE!
and they can climb vertical tubes
they have little pad things on their paws and little claws and r very good at climbing (hey, mine could even jump...) and also, did ur syrian hamster die just of old age? bcuz b4 u put another hamster (or ne small animal) in that cage, u want 2 make sure there r not ne deadly germs there and stuff....
also, if ur cage is wire, then i wouldnt get a dwarf or russian or chinese hamster as they r smaller and can actually (apparently) get out of the cages with wire
hope u get and enjoy a new hamster!

Both sexes of hamsters are ok, they are usually well tempered and wont bite. They will bite ( or attack ) if startled or mistreated. They will climb the tubes at all angles given that the tubes aren't too wide.

Dwarf hamsters are cute, but kind of mean. Plus, if they get out of their cage, they are hard to catch.

dwarf hamsters have what I call small hamster syndrome. they are so small that they have to be on the defensive side. they take a while to warm up to you so just be patient make sure your hands don't smell of food, hand feed them treats and good luck
