Since I work as a cashier in kmart I seem to get a lot of people witnessing to me. Is there some sort of tell tail sign someone is not Christian or do you just witness to everyone.

Not trying to bash here I just honestly want to know. Thank you.

Thank you for the answers so far but by asking I didn't I'm I'm trying to learn how to do it myself. I want to know why it is that some people get witnessed to and some don't. In a round about way of putting it.

You probably have a warm and caring demeanor which puts the person at ease with spreading God's word.
It's our job here on earth to spread the gospel, to reach everyone we can.
I would consider it a compliment and blessing.

I am of the belief that it is not up to me to preach, but up to the ministers, priests, etc. who hopefully won't confuse people. I preach without words. I preach by how I live my life. Which I am sure confuses some non Christians anyway as they seem to think Christians should be perfect...PLEASE...far from it. Christ was perfect not the Christian...
If someone asks you to witness to them then I think it is OK, but only if they realize that you don't know everything and it is better if they learn in the sequence that makes the most sense to them at this moment. The Bible is simple a picture book for the beginner. It is also very complicated for the scholar, and sort of in between for my speed. Once the Bible starts to make sense then you can see how verses tie together and prophocies tie together through the old into the new testaments. It is an amazing Book and now there is the Bible Codes which is a whole other aspect to the Bible a story on top of a story. Some say the code is a bunch of hooey...which it might be...I will wait a little longer before I make up my mind. I have gone off topic so in short my answer is witness by your actions not words.

It kinda depends on where you live. In the South I think people are quite inappropriate about how they handle witnessing. They will go to a stranger witness and if they don't give their life to Jesus right there and then they wash their hands of you and go on. I think that's pretty calloused. But I've never seen things where they just go to certain people all the time, if you had a number of people talking to you about it, then maybe they thought you needed to hear it, or maybe God did. I don't know. I"ve heard of stories like that. Alice Cooper was like that. People would just keep coming to him and sharing, and sending him stuff all the time, and he wasn't interested, and then one day he picked up some of the stuff and read it and gave his life to Jesus. I'm not sure why things happen like that. I personally think the better way to witness is to be a friend, be there during hard times, pray a lot and I wait till people ask me about things. I know people think that's crazy 0 but if you are praying opportunities will come.

Most likely it is because people were concerned about you. I don't think people just go and witness just to witness. I think people are quite lazy and they don't think that much. So they thought to do so, and in a way that might be a good thing that you crossed their mind. I don't know .

But for the most part - people witness to people they are praying for. That's where it all starts. Usually there's not a lot of witnessing without prayer, so that probably meant they were already praying for you or concerned about you for one reason or another. They may not have handled this the best way - but take it that they were trying to show concern. Some people have to have an answer for everything........

Some people just need to shut up.

Overzealous ignorance is what is happening. Maybe they mean well, maybe they are insecure in their beliefs and/or uncertain what the Chirst would really want them to do.

But they just need to learn to shut up.

As a salesperson in another retail establishment, and a Christian, I just ignore the religious pratter. Unless someone gets in my face, like a few have done.

I do, however, wonder just how much anyone could really be saying to a cashier that would be considered witnessing??

Edit: Star, in trying to understand how to best answer you, I went back and read your other post about having been witnessed to. If you are talking about the same guy, I would report what happened to my manager right away. Asking for your phone number goes beyond any reasonable acceptance of any kind of "witnessing". That is totally out of line and dangerous in this day and age.

As to what you should reply to those who are sincere, just tell them "No, thank you for asking, I am not interested". Again, those who persist should be reported to your manager, especially someone who asks for your phone number.

There are times when God will put it into the mind of a believer that some one needs the only true answer which is Christ died for our sins and the only way to find true peace is in a relationship with Him. To do this one must realize that they are a sinner. (Ever told a lie, ever cheated, ever stole anything or had lustful thoughts about another person?) Like the rest of us. Then you realize that God loved you so much that He sent Jesus into the world to die for your sin whether you accept Him or not. Life does not get easier as a Christian. In fact some times it requires you to stand up for you beliefs when bad and powerful people don't want you to.

But if you confess you sins and accept Him and ask Him into your life you will find more peace even in very difficult times because you know that the Father is watching over you.

We witness to every one. Sometimes we end up witnessing to some one who is already saved but some one who is already saved would not be offended by this. Often times people think we are judging them when we witness to them but we are not. We are simply obeying God by spreading the gospel to every creature. It might help to know that witnessing is not easy. It is not comfortable to go up to a perfect stranger and witness to them. It's a scary and awkward thing. But I'm supposed to love you more then I love myself and so I'm supposed to witness to you no matter how uncomfortable it is for me.

As far as how to do it and who to witness to. At our church we go soul winning every Saturday morning and we choose a different place to go soul winning each Saturday. I do not pick and choose who I witness to but it's simply a matter of opportunity. Also, we witness not just by our words but also by our behavior. Some Christians you can't even tell are Christians unless they tell you that they are. They dress like the world, they act like the world and they do the things the world does. People should be able to tell that you are Christian by your behavior, the way you dress, where you spend your time, what you do, and how you treat others. They should see something different about you that makes them want what you have.

We should witness to anyone we come across - like Jesus did. But when someone has a kind face or sweet demeanor, it is a lot easier to take the step to give a witness. True Christians would not take up your company time preaching to you. So, kindly remind them of that next time they want to talk to you on the job. That's rude unless the manager has given permission.

In Matthew 23, Jesus specifically condemned the Pharisees and scribes for targeting converts. In verse 15, he said: "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and then you make that convert twice as much a child of hell as you are."

I know, because I grew up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and my family has also had connections to other Christian religions, that people use it as a business opportunity and make assumptions about what other people will be like based on their appearance or socioeconomic status. 2 Peter 2:13 says: "They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you." Verse 18 says that they mouth empty boastful words and entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.

Therefore, you might be targeted by those who think they "know" what other people are like.

Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Otherwise it is just dead works. If the Spirit leads you, then you can be assured that someday it will bear fruit.

Pray and be in the Word of God every day. Then it is easier to hear the voice of God leading you.

If you are not led to specifically witness with words. As long as your co-workers know somehow that you are a Christian let your life speak for the victory and power of God. Don't be afraid to just share naturally, how Jesus helped you overcome a sin area etc. One of the myths that keeps un-believers bound is that we think we are perfect.

They really need to know that we go to church to get the help of God and our brothers and sisters in Christ to grow and be better people.

Some people will witness to everyone they see. For myself, I will witness to someone if I can see that they need God's help or guidance because of a situation or a problem in their life. I don't believe in trying to shove faith down someones throat. It has to be their choice. If I see that they are uncomfortable, I immediately back off.

Some christians are led to witness at certain times and we as christians should witness all the time. Christians talks to people to see if they are saved and if not, then they are good candidate for witnessing.
