If so, how do you control yourself?

Hey Cody!

Really good question!

I hope you are not trying to just take a poll with your quesiton! But, assuming your not and want a serious answer here goes:

Masterbation is a really tough thing. Every male is hard wired with a powerful sex drive (assuming one is healthy). It serves us well, furthering the human race and allowing us great joy!

It has a dark side though, it can rule us - instead of us being masters of our sex drives, it can be our master. For Christian men that is not good - we should only have one master - Jesus Christ!

One of the major reasons, in my opinion, that it is so difficult to control ourselves in that area, is the world we live in. In most Western Societies, sex is engrained in all our advertising, entertainment, music and for the most part, in the minds and speech of most people. This makes it very difficult to live a chaste life and control our sexual urges.

There is a second problem as well; we are creatures of habit. Once we get into the habit of masterbating, it is really hard to stop - it can be like an addiction - an addiction that is fulled by pornography, immodest dressing and that constant bombardment of sexual messages I alluded to earlier.

If you want to stop, this all works against you - and if you are not married, it is even harder....

You asked how to control yourself... well, first of all recognize that it will be tough, recognize and acknowledge that you will try and fail many times....like any addiction, it is hard to break.

Second, try avoiding "sexing" yourself up - if you avoid pornography - hard or soft, suggestive music or shows, looking lustfully at those girls jogging, then you are going to be much better at avoiding doing it.

Finally, pray. Ask the Lord for help and be assured of His help, understanding and forgiveness. He does not want you to suffer, or be unduly guilty, or dispair. He loves you.

Sex is a wonderful thing and our sex drives are good - just try waiting for marriage, or if you are already married, managing your sex drive. I won't say it is easy - I am married and it is still tough! But I offer it up for God's glory - He created me like this and all I have belongs to Him!

I hope this answers your question!

Peace be with you!

when first came to a relationship with Christ and developed a closeness with Him. went about a year with out masturbating. as walked not as close to Him do it more often. of course the closer a person walks with Jesus the less there is a sin nature.
