Consciousness gives us the ability to realize we will die. This is a big difference between us and other animals. We both have the all the things that help us avoid death, but they never sit back and think about it. Since we do, we need to justify this; come up with an afterlife or reincarnation.

It is kinda like a security blanket :) Or a way to make you accept yourself. And its always nice to know that there is something greater, that knows the whole story and how the cards should be played. Personally I think there is a race of aliens playing God for us, posing as humans, making miracles, etc, going through the proper process to manipulate our society into a Utopian culture.

Because God created us to long for Him. We were created to worship Him. Some would call this a "God - shaped - hole". We try to satisfy our longings with so many things i.e- sex, drugs, money, etc... and we try to fill this hole. We are never truly happy until we find the right puzzle piece. God.
