10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the afear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
12 And yet indeed she is my asister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to awander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy bkindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

I was reading this last night but I really don't understand it. How can Abraham marry his own sister? Could his wife be his sister?

Josie is close... The purpose was to protect HIM. He was afraid that they might kill him in order to take her... of course she WAS pretty old at the time.
Ge 12:11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he spoke to his wife Sarai. He said, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 The people of Egypt will see you. They will say, ‘This is his wife.’ And they will kill me. But they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister. Then I’ll be treated well because of you. My life will be spared because of you.”
Genesis 17:17, 12:4, and a little math tells us that Sara(i) was 65 when she and Abraham BEGAN their travels. Genesis 16 - Hagar and the birth of Ishmael was 10-11 years later, making her 76 when he was born. In 21:5 Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90.
The indication of the text is that she was 89 at the time of the incidents recorded in chapter 20.

Abraham did not lie. Sarah was the daughter of his father.
Ge 20:12 -
But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

Abraham, his half sister Sarah and a slave/concubine named Hagar, all of their actions started a chain of circumstance that has caused wars ever since. They did this with the apparent Approval of their God.

hey good timing! Im presently reading Genesis again and actually Sarah is Abrahams half-sister.
(Genesis 20:12) 12 And, besides, she is truly my sister, the daughter of my father, only not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.. . .
Even tho they were half/bro and sister they were a lot closer to perfection than we are today, so them being married was okay, plus Issac, Abraham and Sarah's son Issac, was going to be this seed promised by God to Abraham.
Isaac as the seed of Abraham was pictorial of Christ, through whom everlasting blessings come. As it is written: “Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It says, not: ‘And to seeds,’ as in the case of many such, but as in the case of one: ‘And to your seed,’ who is Christ.” And by extension, Isaac was also pictorial of those who “belong to Christ,” who “are really Abraham’s seed, heirs with reference to a promise.” (Ga 3:16, 29) Furthermore, the two boys, Isaac and Ishmael, together with their mothers, “stand as a symbolic drama.” Whereas natural Israel (like Ishmael) “was actually born in the manner of flesh,” these making up spiritual Israel “are children belonging to the promise the same as Isaac was.”—Ga 4:21-31.
Isaac is also numbered among the “so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,” for he too was among those “awaiting the city having real foundations, the builder and maker of which city is God.”—Heb 12:1; 11:9, 10, 13-16, 20.
Good Book that is, it really sets the whole theme for the entire bible, and really lets us know that God is a God of order and has a plan for humans. The geneology in that book alone is Amazing!

No, Abe was lying. But the rest of the story is that God still used him for His plan.
It's the same with us today, we sin and God still uses us. It's put in there to show that the prophets, apostles, and followers of Christ are REAL people....not sinless.

Abraham only said Sarah was his sister because he was afraid they would kill her and did it for her protection.
