Word of advice, stay out of cabs if all possible. I deal with them on the road on almost a daily basis, and I nearly got rear ended by one the other day. Plus on game day, the roads around Yankee Stadium tend to gridlock.
For $2.00 one way, take the 4,B, or D to the 161st and River Rd in the Bronx. Personal preference is the 4 (newer trains run on that line), but I have taken all 3 lines. The B you have to be careful with. It stops sometimes one or two stations before the Stadium and you have to switch trains. The 4 requires you to walk down stairs, the B and D require you to walk up stairs.
Have fun at the Stadium!

You can get on the subway right at the bowling green park station near your hotel and take either the #4 or #5 train right to Yankee Stadium.
There is no better or cheaper way to travel in NYC than the subway. During the day and early evening, cabs are slow and expensive. If you want to use them, do so after dinner when traffic dies down and you can actually find a empty one.
When you get to NYC, go to the nearest station and buy a unlimited day pass. It's only $7 and that is a lot cheaper than $2 per ride, especially since you will be riding all the time. It's good for a 24 hour period starting when you first use it.

A cab will end up costing you about $50 if not more. Take the 4 or D subway to 161st Street Yankee Stadium. For Yankee games, the subways are always crowded with fans.

Kauffman Stadium is a nice park since they have made changes to the outfield. I also am fond of AT&T Park because it has the nice view of Mc Covey cove, another good site at AT&T is Tim Lincecum and the BIG UNIT (Randy Johnson). I would love to visit the Ballpark at Arlington home of the Texas Rangers. Arlington Ballpark has a nice classic feel to the park such as the grandstands. I wish I was around during the 1990's so I could visit Tiger Stadium in Detroit because I am a Tigers fan and know allot about the history on the park and it is a classic park that should still be standing.

The roads get PACKED near yankee stadium whenever there is a game going on. Take the train, it will be cheaper and way faster. Also try to arrive a little early as it will be crowded. if you do decide to take the subway youll be paying 8 dollars roundtrip total for you and your wife.

From Battery Park, take the 4 train from the Bowling Green stop. (DON'T take the 5, it doesn't stop at Yankee Stadium.)

When I'm in NYC I take the subway all the time. Much easier and CHEAPER. I go see the Mets so can't tell you how much a taxi is to the Bronx.
