All people choose to be things that they believe it's ok for them to be. If people REALLY didn't want to be fat, they wouldn't. You think body builders WANTED to be all buff and ripped?... um... YEAH! Ever see a REALLY fat person who wasn't eating or on their way to or from eating? NO!!! Really fat people are DEDICATED to being fat. Just as I'm dedicated to NOT being fat. It's not important enough for them to be anything other than fat so they allow themselves to be so. I knew a beautiful woman who decided to be beautiful AND thin and after DEDICATING herself to being thin, she was. She then got married (not to me) and the importance of being thin wasn't as strong as it once was and she gained most of the weight back that she had lost. Where your mind goes your as$ will follow. If someone chooses not to be fat, they will seek out advice, help, assistance or whatever it takes to change their situation. Just like all the hoops and trials and tribulations a person goes through to get through college: staying up late studying, applying for financial aid, missing dates to study, missing parties to study, writing papers, papers and more papers and staying awake through, at least, most of your classes is the same way if someone wants to be anything other than fat, they will make it happen. OF COURSE there is about 10-15% of the fat population that has glandular problems or some bizzare medical condition that prevents them from being "normal" weight so we have to account for them also.

Because it requires a complete lifestyle change to get healthy. Most people do not like change, even skinny people. If I told you that you had to spend money on counseling from a nutritionist, or hours online doing research on what foods are better for you and how to prepare them, as well as squeezing in an extra hour or so a day to exercise, and you had to do this for the rest of your life, would you make that change?
Being overweight does not bother me. I am 5'11, 280 pounds. I have a moderately muscular build, but I am overweight as well. I live an average life. I don't spend all day stuffing my face like most people think fat people do.
I don't chose to be fat, but I have too much going on to make a drastic change right now to make myself thinner.
I have not always been overweight. Two years out of high school I weighed 235. I joined the Marines, and after the three month boot camp, I weighed 165. For the next 8 years, I kept my weight under 200. I could run 3 miles in less than 25 minutes, do 15-20 pull ups, and 100 sit ups in less than 90 seconds. I know what it is like to be skinny, and I know what it is like to be fat. The only difference is, when I was skinny, I hated fat people. I thought they should do more for themselves like I did. I realize now how much it takes to reverse weight gain, and it is harder for some people than others.

ok look people don't choose to be fat, ask any fat person and they would tell they would not mind being skinny, anything could make you fat from certain sicknesses or bad habits from childhood, once out of teenage years it is really hard to change that lifestyle

no one chooses to be fat. some people gain weight because of perscription meds, depression, injuries or their metabolism is just slow. there are different ways and it's not all because they don't know how to stop eating.

Because they would rather eat whatever they want and not worry about exercise than have to diet and work out. They don't want to put any effort into looking good. They take the easy way out and look like crap. They have no willpower. They can't make a commitment and stick to it. They are weak minded. They will be sorry when they start to age and their body falls apart.
