Judging from the televangelists and right wing politicians out there pushing the god myth and getting caught with their pants down, it almost seems like to be a great Christian leader, one must dabble in prostitution, homosexuality, or at least some kind of bribery, funding of racist regimes, or other such scandal.

In all seriousness, religion has never really been a good predictor of morality. If anything, atheists tend to have higher morals. Religious people tend to be morally lazy because they rely on their religious leaders to spoon-feed them what they should believe instead of thinking for themselves and understanding the underlying issues about what makes something right or wrong.

That person could be a christian. There are many christians that have lost their way in this world(lost sheep). You can only hope that they will stop the sins they are committing and repent. If they have been baptised then they are a child of God. God does forgive all sin, but they have to be truly sorry(repent) and turn their back on that life. If they decided to live their life for christ he would accept them back.

I'm shocked at the people who answered "no" to this question. Everybody struggles with vices whether it be prostitution, drugs, alcohol, whatever. In my case, it is pornography. I don't have a problem admitting that. I try not to look at it. I hate myself for doing it. I beg God to release me from the burden, but he wants me to conquer it on my own. I have prayed and prayed, been to meetings and sought help, but have not yet received relief from it.

Are you people who answered "no" going to tell me that I am not a Christian because of that? How dare you! Hypocrites! This is exactly what Jesus despised among the Pharisees. Heck, Jesus himself saved a prostitute in Mary Magdelane from being stoned by saying, "any one of you who has not committed this sin, cast the first stone." And nobody could. Unbelievable that people would answer no to this question.

Suggestion: Open a Bible and read it before you counsel people on what constitutes a Christian.

Yes, but not for long.

Once Jesus is in your heart you will shed the things and behaviors that are negative. How long this process takes is up to the individual. I'm still trying to let God remove my gluttony.

No one can get rid of everything and no one except God can see a person's heart. Only God knows our true intent.

Goldwing: you went off on a tangent didn't you. Where did the poster claim to be Christian?

JayDee..you are mistaken....the overwheming majority have answered YES! (12 say yes, 6 say no, and 5 are in the middle). How can you say the overwhelming majority said no?

Again, the state of one's soul is for our perfect God to assess. To be sure, we have our guidelines, but many people can hide behind a false front their entire lives.

I have never looked to my church leaders for my moral examples.

Absolutely yes, a christian is a person who believes jesus is the son of god period.
Edit
You should be ashamed of yourselves, denying your own brethren because you disagree with them, you make me sick
Edit
No I'm not confused, you are supposed to love your brother
and instead, when you disagree with them, you deny them and say the aren't christian. what is there to be confused about?
Edit
Ha! and you christians wonder why we turn into atheists. You and your god make me sick.
Edit
Indeed I stood for my self, and see the light, of how you deceive yourselves with a book written 2000 years ago by shepherds, and yet the most important teaching of that book to love your fellow man and you can't even accomplish that?
Tell me who is the weak one?
Edit
Hate sin not the sinner.

I keep seeing neckless with cross sign hanging in porn pictures as well as in criminals. Some of it are with "Jesus" in it. So...... answer is there, no matter what anybody say. Beside which, lots of people who go to church, live and have sex (male and female) outside of mariage; The church and their churchfellows know it, but it seems normal and everybody say it is their own business.
GWBush claim himself as a very Christian's, does he not tell lies? Does he not prostituting his power/position for his ego and not for the goods of America?

Yes! Anybody can be in prostitution and be a Christian as well, we dont need to deny it; They will say that because they believe in Jesus as God, they will be forgiven. How nice, maybe its true. Who knows ?

I believe good Christians will not be in prostitutions on the street or in porn.

Yes... but one so involved will have a whole lot to be ashamed for when called to stand before God.

If there is one such who seeks God... they can do that as well... All may come to God... so long as they do so in The Way God prescribes.

Not a good idea to call yourself a Christian and live in sin with an unrepentant heart.

2007-06-06 16:25:36 · answer #9 · answered by Catherine 4 · 2 0

If we truly have the Holy Spirit living in us, He gives us the strength to turn from sin and wicked ways.
Anyone who continues in that sort of lifestyle and claims to be a Christian, is a liar.

1st John tells us how to spot a false convert.
1st John 1:5-7 states-
Walking in the light;
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.

Sure can. What you do is among you and God. A "actual" Christian is someone who believes Jesus is the son of God and died on your sins. It's whilst folks begin determining who's a " bigger" Christian that actual Christianity is misplaced.
