Certain closed minded people of ANY religion can be mean, for a variety of reasons. Oprah did a show on subconscious bais today which I found to be fascinating. The fact is that we all grow up in enviornments where groups and images are linked mentally with other groups and images that can be negative.
just for example off the top of my head: wiccans/satanists, oprah/weightgain, celebrities/rehab, bill clinton/monica lewinsky, paris hilton/annorexia
Its your job to be aware, educate yourself, and protect your own rights to believe what you choose. Other than that you can't be thin skinned, and you can't wait for society to agree with you because it never will. Even those Christians do not feel "completely normal," they will also complain about prejudice and continue to be paranoid about those who 'don't accept Jesus Christ as their savior.' Just be happy with who you are and move on, knowing that whatever person criticized you has no choice but to live with the burden of ignorance and hate. Being educated, you have the right to choose not to hate. Good luck.

Most of the Christians I know aren't mean. I'm a very nice person and I'm a Christian and love God and all that good stuff. Every group or religion has mean people, the fact that you think its just Christians isn't good. You must have met the wrong one's.
Have a good one = ]

I think people are mean to people. And some of the people who are mean to people are Christians. I wish we could all be better people. Sadly, a lot of times, the label you or the world places on someone doesn't tell us who they are inside. In any event, I'm sorry that some Christians have been mean to you or someone you know in the past.
I have been blessed to know many caring, kind Christians. And some who fall short of God's plan. Thank you for asking this provacative question. I'm sure it will help many of us think about what kind of people we are and what kind of people we want to be.
You will be in my prayers.
God bless,
Laura

Why...
Many people will label themselves to be a christian...but not act accordingly to Christian doctrine. For instance in this Forum there are many hostile "Christians", "Muslims" and etc... One of the 10 commandments is, "Thou shall not kill." Ask yourself how many troops are Christians, but will not hesitate to drop you.
Take words as words and actions as actions. People are very mean and judgemental I do agree.
That's why you judge a person by their actions and not words.

We are in defense of the Gospel...but we hopefully aren't being mean....Sometimes when we are confronted with controversial issues and are asked our biblical opinion,it is negative...but we do not hate anyone...we are just trying to share what we have learned....We also respect your right to believe what ever you will. Personally I act quite silly most of the time, but I sincerely hope that I am not smug, arrogant or personally offensive to others...I would welcome rebuke,If I am at times.

you've problee just met the wrong christians, its the people that you have met that are mean, you can't generalize and say that all christians are mean, sometimes christians can be a little in your face because they enjoy believing in god and want to share it with everyone. please don't generalize like that, obviously you don't know that many christians!

They are mean because they are told over and over again and fully believe that they are superior and chosen over anyone who has different beliefs. They have the spoiled child syndrome. They have been overindulged in their imaginations about themselves. They feel they have complete license to sit in judgment over the rest of us.
