People are mean to Christians because many Christians are first MEAN to others. Like in Y!Answers... some Christians label other with meaness... if a cluster of Christians are mean and very un-Christlike, is it no a right for others to defend themselves?

A cluster of extreme muslims are cruel, but now many people just assume all muslims are cruel and terrorists non?

Take this question for example: see how the querent puts others down, belittles others with such arrogance, do you really think that is a reflection of Jesus or God? Insult others often enough and be ready for others to insult back.. when they do, don't scream victim

They do not believe and they fear
Yes Christians can be accused of hypocrisy I think it was Christ who made the description I do not want o point a finger but if anyone claims not to be a hypocrite they are at best deluding themselves.

It is not OK to be one but sometimes we do come over as that
because if no attempt is made to do the right think by God
we can not be accused of inconsistency'

We often miss the lesson "Love the sinner, hate the sin"

I can sum it up into one word - misconceptions. And now I'll elaborate...

Misconception #1: Christians hate people. That's why they're always telling everyone they're going to hell.
Truth: Very few Christians actually run around telling people they're going to hell. If they are really Christian, then when they do speak of hell, it's because they care about the person they're speaking to and don't want that person to suffer a terrible fate. It's out of love that they warn others, not hate.

Misconception #2: Catholics represent all Christians.
Truth: The Catholic church may very well be the prostitute spoken of in Revelation. It is not a reflection on true Christianity. It is a perverted version of the faith.

Misconception #3: Christians are "stupid", or uneducated (especially Creationists). Also Christianity is based on "blind faith".
Truth: There is a significant amount of historical, scientific, and prophetic evidence to support the Bible. It's not blind faith, in fact the Bible itself urges us to test it and see if it's true. There are a lot of highly educated people who are Christians and Creationists.

Many Christians try to preach and get everyone to believe what they believe. A lot of them are arrogant in their assumption that all those around them believe in God. Of course, most Christians are nice and polite people, but the arrogant ones give the rest a bad name.

The same is true of atheists. The outspoken ones are usually more rude and arrogant than the passive ones.

Normal is a subjective term. In your belief in your God, you are normal in American society where a great percentage of the population agrees with you. In the world, you are not normal, many more people are either Muslim or one of the varieties of Buddhist.

Often, the meanness to which you reference, is a defensive mechanism when someone of a different faith (or no faith at all) feel attacked by those of Christian belief. Many of us don't like having our lives governed by those that insist that the only truth is written in a book that is full of contradictions, misinformation, and outright untruths.

In most cases, that meanness is not personal.

Hi Beth,

don't let it get to you in anyway cos there is no way we can even be treated meanly the way our Lord Jesus Christ was treated.
so rejoice and be happy when men despise you 4 His sake or 4 being a Christian 4 your reward is in Heaven and even in those painful times God Almighty is smiling on You and u know what that means.

be strong and keep your chin up, your are not here to please men But God Almighty.
do your part in being a good Christian and also love those who despise you.

In the book of Matthew
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Christians aren't supposed normal. the Bible says we are to be set apart from this world. We are also warned that life won't be easy and nonbelievers will persecute us. We just got to take it and show them Christ's love.

Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Some people are mean to Christians, they just are. Just like some people are mean to Buddists, Hindus, Muslims, Athiests, Agnostics, etc. Sorry to say, but it's human nature. If you don't try to push your beliefs onto others, then you should have nothing to worry about. If you do try to push your beliefs onto others, then you got it coming.

What did Paul say?

1Corinthians 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a SPECTACLE unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

What did Yashua say?

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

These verses show some of the answer to your question, the following will flesh them out:

2Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2 Timothy 3:1 ¶ But be certain of this, that in the last days times of trouble will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, uplifted in pride, given to bitter words, going against the authority of their fathers, never giving praise, having no religion, 3 Without natural love, bitter haters, saying evil of others, violent and uncontrolled, hating all good,
4 False to their friends, acting without thought, lifted up in mind, loving pleasure more than God; 5 Having a form of religion, but turning their backs on the power of it: go not with these. 6 For these are they who go secretly into houses, making prisoners of foolish women, weighted down with sin, turned from the way by their evil desires, 7 Ever learning, and never coming to the knowledge of what is true.

This pretty much describes the situation that Christians find them selves in today all over the world.

It's all reactionary. Self-defense even. Really. Just pop on over to, oh, India and live there for a while. You'll get it.
