I had braces when I was younger but gaps formed later in life. I have bonding, veneers, and Lumineers done. The bonding is the cheapest of the 3. I didnt have to have any shots and no pain. It was pretty quick. I only had them redone once to improve how they looked. With veneers, they had to shave some of the tooth off and place it over. I had to be numbed for this though. But I have one that has lasted over 5 years and no problem. The second cheapest of the 3. The Lumineer didn't require shots or shaving. It looks the most real out of all 3. But also most expensive. But my friends couldn't even tell it was fake. So the Lumineer wins the "real" factor but veneers for price. Ask your dentist which one they recommend for the size of the gap. Good luck!

Yes, a dentist should be able to close the diastema with cosmetic bonding by adding to the existing tooth structure. Braces, as far as I know, won't close a diastema.

I had the same problem. After braces my teeth moved apart again. My ortho at the time had me wear one of those small rubber bands around my two front teeth until they were acceptabley close and than he used dental glue to put a small wire behind my front teeth. I had that for almost 30 years. It worked great. One day I bent the wire with a fork and had it removed. Now I wear retainers every night to keep them from seperating again.

You can check into Lumineers - they are painless - no shots & no drilling. It's a very thin layer of porcelain that is bonded to your existing teeth - they would enlarge the 2 front teeth so they meet in the middle. They have a life expectancy of 20 years or more.

A classmate of mine had a large gap in between her teeth. She went and got cosmetic bonding done and she looked fantastic. She said it was painless. It looks completely natural and is usually covered by insurance in most cases.

HELLO OWEN,
THE SIMPLE THING IS COMPOSITE BONDING.
THE COMPLEX COURSE IS GUM AND BONE SURGERY AND MORE BRACES TO CLOSE THE DIASTEMA.
WHY THE SURGERY?
BECAUSE OF FIBROUS TISSUE BETWEEN THE TWO FRONT TEETH.
