lob wedge

A Lob Wedge, also called a Lofted Wedge or L-Wedge, is a golf club with a high amount of loft, usually 60 degrees, although the amount of loft ranges from 58 to 64 degrees in loft, except for a few brands of super-high lofted clubs made by fringe companies. The lob wedge is the most lofted club in a golfer's bag. The Lob Wedge can be used from the fairway, the rough, or from bunkers; whenever the player needs to hit the ball high and or stop the ball quickly on the green. It can also be used when the player is on the green and is difficult to putt the ball in.

The amount of bounce on a club usually dictates its primary use. Lob wedges with low bounce can be used on firmer lies, whereas those with a high bounce are often used from the rough, or the sand.

a lob wedge, usually has a loft of 60 degrees is meant to attack the pins which are really close to hazards or places which is not the green.

like eg. a pin is just 5 feet away from a greenside bunker, so you have to hit it high, and have the minimum roll, get over the bunker, land it right in front of the bunker and roll in the cup(if possible). so lob wedges are for tight approaches. another eg, if you use a pitching wedge or a 9, the best you could do is land right infront of the bunker and roll all the way, having yourself a mile putt, so it's that's the reason why we use lob wedges.

But lob wedges are not recommended for beginners, it's tough to contact the ball where you want it. Unless you practice alot on it! cheers:) never end doubt

In easy to understand terminolgy; The 'lob wedge' is used for those times when a high, soft landing shot is what is needed to pull off a certain shot. That shot could be hitting the ball over a bunker, with the pin just a few feet away from where 'putting green' meets 'fairway'...or depending on your playing skills, to hit a shot from the fairway an 'exact' distance.

Since most of today's PGA players can tell you exactly how far they hit each club, then carrying a lob wedge allows a golfer to be able to hit certain and/or specific types of shots form most any lie and/or hit the ball from the fairway to an exact distance and still get the ball to stop as fast as dropping a bowling ball on the ground! ;-)

There is more loft on the club, so the ball goes higher and shorter when struck with a full swing. It's always easier to take a full whack at the ball in terms of knowing beforehand about how far it will go.

Its development probably is a reflection of the other clubs' ability to hit the ball long distances. Equipment has improved greatly over the years, and balls are going farther. So, the lob wedge fills in the gap.

I'm not sure. Why do you ask? Do you happen to know a lob wedge that is having an existential crisis?

That's the club you will use when you need to hit over a bunker or hazard and you need to stop the ball close to the flag because you don't have any green to work with. It gets the ball up in the air and softly lands it on the green with little roll, kind of like you underhanded it on the green.
