I just started running a week ago..( more like jogging I am trying to lose weight and get in shape) I ran just over 1.5 miles today before I had to quit. How many weeks do you recommend training before running a 5k?

running is mostly in your mind, if you can already run 1.5 in a week, you can do a 5k. Just focus on something in front of you and run to it and keep repeating that until you cross the finish line. A 5k is twice the distance you already run, so everytime you run, increase your distance by a quarter mile or a half mile, and you'll be ready to do a 5k in about a few more weeks.

For a 5K race 24 hours is sufficient. However, I would not do any speed work in the final three days and no long runs (more then 6 miles) the week of the race. Good luck.

i would have to say atleast 2-3 months still if your having trouble with 1.5 miles. you have to keep in mind that you have to mix up your runs, aka running a distance run and a short run. you should try and mix some speed in the mix. A word of advice is to run a little then STRETCH like you life depended on it. when you finish the workout, stretch again. oh one last thing, it is best to lift weights after a longer run.

give yourself about 2 months of good training, remember that you don't have to run a 5k everyday for training some days run for distance training and some days do speed training, don't forget to do a little strength work also, good luck
