Pride. Especially with doctors who have this like God complex- where they think they are the smartest creatures on this planet. I have total respect for doctors- but I agree with you on a "human" level she could have at least apologized. Yeah- she is super busy, but you are paying her for her services- she is not doing it out of the kindness of her heart. So I agree- it would not have killed her to just say "sorry I haven't been able to return your calls"

I feel that most People feel and think that they are always right, so when they make mistakes, it is so hard to accept it that they don't usually apologize because apologizing for them is like accepting that they have made a mistake... Other, I believe that they feel that they are superiors to others, like what you said, the doctor never apology for being late because they feel they are more important that you because she is a doctor and you are not; I bet she gives herself too much credit than she deserves

One time, when I was pregnant with my second child, I had this horrible little man for a doctor, who was over an hour late for our appointment. His nurses were dumbounded and tried to tell me he was at the hospital. He came in with his lunch, didn't even apologize, and then proceeded to eat before seeing me. Meanwhile, this appointment had been set weeks before to do an ultrasound. My husband witnessed him telling me to come back and get one and when. I took off work and everything. Then he had the gall to tell me that he never told me to come in, that I must have misunderstood him because I wasn't far enough along to get an ultrasound, and he even had another doctor come in and back him up on me not being far enough along. He never even apologized, and here I had missed three hours of work because of this idiot. They are still sending me the bill for $33.15, which I will not be paying, and have not paid for the past five years. I have called them twice and told them to just write it off and stop wasting their postage (which they have DEFINITELY exceeded the $33.15 in postage costs trying to get me to pay it...)

I think the problem is people's egos. People do not like to admit that they are wrong or that they have inconvenienced or hurt another person. What ever happened to cordiality? It is almost like people have lost the ability to empathize with others.
***What I would like to see***
I would like to see people say, "I am sorry that I hurt you or inconvenienced you. I realize that I was wrong. Please accept my apology."
I would like to see everybody with that kind of concern for others, whether they are a masonry contractor or the president of a Big Ten University, or whether they are a high school kid or the pastor of your church.

There's a virus going around called rudeness. Doctors are not immune to it, I suppose.

I too wonder why. One doesn't need to spend a dime to apologise. I am straightforward guy and I wouldn't midn to apologise anytime if I know I made a mistake
