I am Mormon, and I am just seeing the funny answers I can get, but it seems like all of you so far are not giving any funny answers of what you think we believe in, but from looking throuhg Y!A, I found two things, they think we believe in 4000-year-old quakers from the moon, and that we have something to do with John Smith and the lizard people. Since after a day, no one answers questions in a popular category aymore, I am going to put this question to vote.

And if your eyes just go to the shortest line of the Added Details (this line,) I am Mormon.

The Mormon religion was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ and was told that all churches and their creeds were an abomination. Joseph set out to impose a brand-new religion that claims to be the “only true church on earth.” The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians have no reason to believe that the Bible is not true and adequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word. And all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).

Mormons believe that there are in fact four sources of divinely inspired words, instead of just one. 1) The Bible “as far as it is translated correctly.” Which verses are incorrectly translated are not always made clear 2) The Book of Mormon was “translated” by Smith and published in 1830. Smith claimed it is the “most correct book” on earth, and that a person could get closer to God by following its precepts, “than by any other book.” 3) The Doctrine and Covenants is considered scripture by Mormons, containing a collection of modern revelations regarding the “Church of Jesus Christ as it has been restored.” 4) The Pearl of the Great Price is considered by Mormons to “clarify” doctrines and teachings that were lost from the Bible and adds its own information about the earth's creation.

Mormons believe these things about God: that He has not always been the Supreme Being of the universe, but attained that status through righteous living and persistent effort. They believe God the Father has a “body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s.” Though abandoned by modern Mormon leaders, Brigham Young taught that Adam actually was God and the father of Jesus Christ. Christians know this about God: there is only One true God (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10, 44:6-8), that He always has and always will exist (Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalm 90:2, 1 Timothy 1:17), and that He was not created, but is the Creator (Genesis chapter1, Psalm 24:1, Isaiah 37:16). He is perfect and no one else is equal to Him (Psalm 86:8, Isaiah 40:25). God the Father is not a man, nor was He ever (Numbers 23:19, 1 Samuel 15:29, Hosea 11:9). He is Spirit (John 4:24), and Spirit is not made of flesh and bone (Luke 24:39).

Mormons believe that there are different levels or kingdoms in the afterlife: The Celestial Kingdom, the Terrestrial Kingdom, the Telestial Kingdom and outer darkness. Where mankind will end up depends on what they believe and do in this mortal life. The Bible tells us that after death, we go to Heaven or Hell based on whether we had faith in Jesus or not. To be absent from our bodies as believers means we are with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6-8). Unbelievers are sent to Hell, or the place of the dead (Luke 16:22-23). When Jesus comes for the second time, we will receive new bodies (1 Corinthians 15:50-54). There will be a New Heaven and New Earth for believers (Revelation 21:1), and unbelievers will be thrown into an everlasting lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). There is no second chance for redemption after death (Hebrews 9:27).

Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary. They believe Jesus is a God, but that any human can also become a god. Christians historically have taught that God is Triune and that He exists eternally as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). No one can achieve the status of God, only He is holy (1 Samuel 2:2). We can only be made holy in God's sight through faith in Him (1 Corinthians 1:2). Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16) and is the only one ever to have lived a sinless, blameless life, who now has the highest place of honor in Heaven (Hebrews 7:26). Jesus and God are one in essence, Jesus being the only One existing before physical birth (John 1:1-8, 8:56). Jesus gave Himself to us as a sacrifice, and God raised Him from the dead, and one day everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:6-11). Jesus tells us it is impossible to get to Heaven by our own works, only with faith in Him is it possible (Matthew 19:26). And many will not choose Him. “You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way” (Matthew 7:13). We all deserve eternal punishment for our sins, but God's infinite love and grace has allowed us a way out. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Clearly there is only one way to receive salvation; to know God and His Son, Jesus (John 17:3). It is not done by works, but by faith (Romans 1:17, 3:28). When we have this faith, we will automatically be obedient to God's laws and become baptized out of love for Him, but not because it is a requirement for salvation. We can receive this gift no matter who we are or what we have done (Romans 3:22). “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Although Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people - they are involved in a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.

OK I guess I will have to answer some of those remarks given by those above me. Its not a cult it is a true religion. By having other scriptures, yes we do they go hand in hand with the Bible. They do not in any way contradict the Bible. The book of Mormon just helps understand Jesus Christ better not take away or change the Bibles legitimacy. The L.D.S. church has not taken any thing out of the Bible nor has the church added anything to the Bible. What people should ask themselves is why would the Bible be the only book the lord has had written by man? What if some of the books that are talked about in the Bible are found that are currently lost? Will the people then say they cannot be true because they are not included in the scriptures we have now even though they are mentioned in the Bible? One of the answers talked about some of the things we do and like the temple ordnance's. However they never seemed to give the reason they thought that they were wrong.
I for one know the church to be true but I cannot give that knowledge to any one else, they have to approach it with faith in order to understand. It is no different than believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross and then was resurrected.
To best find out what we believe I would suggest looking up on your computer the web site. (lds.org) there you will find a section which states our beliefs.

Well, Kait's answer isn't bad. He tried to be objective and presented many beliefs as matter-of-factly as he could. However, he still managed to insert his own bias about those beliefs.
Why do you ask a question like this? You are bound to receive all manner of responses based on misunderstanding, bias, misinformation, rumor and speculation. Some of your respondents have refered you to lds.org, the official web site of the Church. This is a good starting point. If you want to know more, you should contact your local missionaries and ask for the discussions. You can get a copy of The Book of Mormon for little or nothing. Read it with an open mind and honest heart and ponder its contents. Then take the challenge and ask God, in the name of Christ, if it is true. That is how we received our testimonies and that is the formula for anybody else to do the same. Our basic beliefs are formulated into 13 statements known as The Articles of Faith. They can be found in the following web site:

I do hope you will continue your studies without prejudice from the naysayers.

I dont' realize many details approximately Mormons. I've consistently been curious to study approximately Mormonism a bit of bigger. I spoke with a Mormon guy as soon as who instructed me that a pass necklace is regarded as a bad factor on account that it represents the killing/loss of life of Jesus Christ. He instructed me that Mormons are Christians and there rather is not a lot change. Another Mormon pal instructed me Mormons think that after we die if we comply with God's teachings that we will be able to have our possess universe with the individuals we like in it with us. Is any of this precise? Someone else instructed me that Mormons think that Satan is not dangerous and is God's son too. Also that he's respected as Jesus is. Also I've heard they are in general no longer allowed any stimulants corresponding to caffeine, or depressant like alcohol, medications, and so on. Someone else recounted whatever to me approximately an angel named Maroni (spelling?) and a white rabbit. Is any of this precise or does it make experience?

They believe in their own scriptures translated from some plates found by Joseph Smith (named under Sources, below) as well as in the Bible, "insofar as it is *correctly* translated"; pre-existent life in the spirit world (i.e., before birth); abstention from tobacco, alcohol and caffeine; having their marriages "sealed for Time and Eternity" in a Mormon Temple; being baptized for the salvation of people who have died, who were not Mormons; revelation to Joseph Smith by the Angel Moroni; the Melchizedek priesthood; that American Indians are the lost tribes of Israel; that Negroes are cursed with their dark skin because they are descendants of Ham, who "uncovered his father, Noah's nakedness"; that young men (and, I guess, now women, too) should serve for two years as "Elders", proselytising for the Mormon Church; that "good" Mormons will become gods of their own universes, with many wives; that Jesus and Lucifer/Satan were brothers to each other (though many Mormons not in the church hierarchy are either unaware of and/or deny this).

The best answer to this question is to go to the source. Ask a Mormon, or go to their web page. If i wanted to know more about McDonald's, I would go ask a manager at McDonald's and not a manager at Arby's. You will get biased responses from any other source.

Here are a few sites for you to look at. It may answer some questions for you. I refuse to comment on anything anyone else has said because they don't know the religion and can't possibly really know what we believe. Check out the sites.

I KNOW what mormons believe in. I was in the cult for 27 years.

I know about:
the garments
the secret handshakes
the "new" names
the "play" in the temple
the anointing of the body parts
kolob
the "living expense" that the so called non paid clergy (prophet and apostles) get
having to tell your bishop about masturbating
the mountain meadows massacre
the rape and marriage of underage girls by Joseph Smith.

Shall I go on??

I'm sorry, but it's not a very nice religion.
