Could be an infection.
Usually infection causes pain when peeing. The dog will show other signs of illness. Sleepy/laziness, drinking A LOT more water, crying/straining when peeing, and inappropriate peeing. Blood/discoloration in the pee.

You mention he didn't realize it was happening. I think it's something else.

What are you feeding? Did you check the recall lists? Make sure he didn't get any bad food.

How old is he? Older pets need to be checked for cancer. (sorry to mention the "C" word!). There are other diseases that strike the elderly too, as well as muscle weakness that won't hold the full bladder anymore.

Old pets also become senile, like people. They get confused and don't realized what they are doing, or think they're outside.

Young pets can be stressed into peeing. Changes are upsetting. Some respond badly.

Younger pets can eat or drink things that interfere with bladder/kidney function.

Basically, get to a vet.
Find out EXACTLY what's going on. Guesses don't do the dog any good.

Cheers.

Go to the vet ASAP! he might have some kind of bladder problem. In the mean time if it's that bad, go buy a doggy dipper! It will at least help keep him from peeing all over your stuff. You can get the at some pet stores, so look around.

Sounds like a bladder infection or a UTI. This poor dog needs to see a VET.

Good luck

You answered your own question. Yes, take him to a vet, and yes, it could possibly be a bladder/kidney or urinary tract infection. Make your appointment ASAP!

That could be it, but if you have recently changed how you do things that could also do this. If you are going out when he is used to you being home, or not paying enough attention. They are like kids and pick up on your emotions and react to them so if you are stressed he will be too. They can also show displeasure this way, so look at how things might have changed in your life and how much time you spend with him. Also, how old is your dog?

Sounds like he has a loss of control over his bladder if he isn't aware he is doing it. He should be seen by the vet.

Always rule out anything physical first when ever there is a change in your dogs behavior. See a vet

Take him to the vet because that is not normal. He probably has an infection.

Probably either a urinary or kidney infection or kidney stones. It requires treatment.
