The first thing that comes to mind is wood paneling and shag rugs or carpeting (orange, green, blue, or white.)
Mood lighting contributes a lot to the feel of a retro room. Go to your local thrift stores and antique shops to find them.
Look up 'Vintage Playboy' on Ebay for some fun things to add to your decor.
Search of 'Pin-ups' at allposters.com, or search for your favorite poster girl (Farrah, Racquel, etc.) on Ebay.
A cocktail bar would be really cool, with martini glasses and a cocktail shaker, of course.
Have fun with and good luck!

Hi! Check out my cousin's retro deco shop in Austin, Texas. It's called "ROOM SERVICE" and it is amazing.
www.roomservicevintage.com
She's been in business about 20 years, and she specializes in 50's, 60's and 70's ONLY. The film industry uses her shop & advice constantly. Awesome pics on her website will give you some hot ideas.
Her stuff is really well-priced, too. I am not kidding. I once did an entire three bedroom house out of her store for way less than 2 grand. And I didn't get no family discount!
My personal advice: don't forget lighting. The best contribution of the 60's was the incredible swag light fixtures!!!!
Have fun getting groovy!

You need the curtain beads in the doorway. You need San Francisco concert bills. Fillmore West and that sort of thing (you can probably find reproductions on the web).
You need turn table with real LPs.
Day Glo paint and flowers and bears and peace signs.
I advise against bean bag chairs. They are a pain in the butt in the long run.
If you can find a VW micro bus to drive up to your groovy pad you'll get bonus points.

Definitely some appropriate vintage music and possible movie posters. Hard to go wrong with a good Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd poster.
