you are screwed. So far the wait is actually around 12 weeks. You might be able to call to get an expedited passport, and you may need to travel to the closet office to get an appointment to get a passport sooner. But, you just might be out of luck. Many travel agents recommend not scheduling an out-of-the -country trip until the passport arrives.

Actually, 10 weeks is quite normal. The system is overflowing with people getting new passports because of the new laws requiring them for any over-the-border travel after Jan, 2007.

To find out the status of your passport application, go to this URL http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html. Click on the "check your status" link. However, even checking on your passport's status can take several weeks. If you sent your passport application by Expedited service, it takes less time. There is a chart on the processing webpage which explains how long it takes per kind of service you requested.

According to a news article today, "Until the end of September, travelers will be allowed to fly without a passport if they present a State Department receipt, showing they had applied for a passport, and government-issued identification, such as a driver's license."

Because of the State Department backlog on processing passport applications.

Sorry to say but all you can do is call and hope.

Passports are taking anywhere from 12-15 weeks so it's doubtful it will show before you are scheduled to go. Just keep calling as that is all you can do. You really should start planning what you can do if it doesn't show. Hope you get through...

Keep calling. It takes awhile but your trip is pretty soon. So keep calling and talk to somebody. If you have your ticket, etc., they may be able to expedite things for you.
It took awhile for my family's passports to come, too!
